I feel like most devs are going to agree with this. Most aren't against using AI as an assistive tech, they are moreso against using it as a generative tech. Formatting, commenting and suggestions? Sure. Sometimes it even recommends things you haden't thought of. Actually writing the code and making the entire thing is where many draw the line into "this is bad don't use it"

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not but IMO the whole concept of "support the visibility of opinions you don't like" was doomed from the start because you can't force people to play along with an alternate vote meaning (and the version this is an alternate to also wasn't the intention behind the voting system, so there already was a drive to use votes as support of the idea rather than the discussion).
Also, if posts make it to all, then there will be voters who don't even realize the community wants votes to work differently, even if they care about what the community wants.
Watching porn is morally problematic.
Most people aren’t paying for their porn. They’re watching stuff uploaded, for free/pirated, often without the involvement or approval of the people involved.
Porn also normalizes extreme acts - things like choking, which is more dangerous than actually whipping someone.
Video games for the same exact reasons are also morally problematic. If you are against piracy then you have to say all piracy is immoral. Gotta admit that or else you just have a double standard. Unless you think cartoon porn is fine. Porn can be wrong for different reasons like labor practices. Addiction to anything is bad.

Hydration. Until 30 years ago, humans had no problem hydrating themselves when water was available. Note available. It’s called being thirsty. All of a sudden, you must hydrate, you must hydrate. Somehow, all the executives at all the big drink companies got together and said let’s just use the word hydration and hope for potluck on which product of ours they buy. Of course everyone jumped on the corporate bandwagon and they are now completely converted to this weird idea that humans don’t know how to hydrate when they need to so they can sell their sugar laden crap.
Once you get Hydroflask it makes me wonder how people ever survived a long journey, etc
The "running man" hypothesis -- the idea that our ancestors a million or two years ago were casually jogging after prey animals until they dropped from exhaustion due to our supposedly superior endurance -- is utter nonsense. It's absurd on its face and there is absolutely no evidence of any kind supporting it, yet it has become generally accepted as an incontrovertible fact about our past.
The man who initially proposed this idea in the 1960s (Grover Krantz) has become utterly forgotten and is never referenced by the idea's modern proponents, and for good reason: he was better-known as a staunch believer in the existence of Bigfoot. Also, for no reason I've ever been able to figure out, his skeleton and the skeleton of his favorite dog are on display at the Smithsonian.
What is the actually correct idea vs. The jogging forever?
Just that we never did shit like that. It's not something that needs an alternative explanation. People tend to assume that it was originally proposed as an explanation of our bipedal locomotion, but Krantz actually suggested it as an explanation for our big brains. He hypothesized that jogging after animals in the heat of the day (he never offered a reason for why this would have occurred only in the daytime) would have resulted in large numbers of neurons dying from heat overload, so a big brain would have allowed this neural death to happen without impairing cognitive function. This is why he proposed the endurance hunting at around two million years ago, when our brain size started increasing from chimpanzee size to modern human size, rather than around five million years ago, when our ancestors made the shift to full bipedality.
But the reasons behind the increased brain size have never really been so controversial as to require some weird explanation like this. We know that it wasn't a simple overall increase in size, but was rather the result of an increase in the size of areas of the brain responsible for things like language and tool use, which leads to the easy inference that it was language and tool use that caused the increase in brain size.
I suppose the question I meant was, how did we catch prey if not jogging after them forever? Or is that unknown? Just trying to update my mental model of what happened! Thanks for the info
Here's an unpopular opinion for people to upvote because we're supposed to upvote the opinion we think is unpopular:
Linux sucks more than the users want to admit and it's fans are the worst.
If you have to learn to program stuff to fix something in your OS, then it's not a good OS. This isn't the case for most modern Linux, but there's many examples of just having to learn all sorts of crap just to make it functional. With the other two mainstream OS they are plug and play. Lately they have done shitty choices with AI and everything so that's not as much of the case, but at least there you don't have to go in and fix the code to make something functional.
If Linux was that great, you wouldn't have to do any of that. I find it's a weird parallel to owning a crown vic, where you have to pile sandbags in the back so it'll drive in literally any snow, and then when you talk about it people say it's a skill issue because they are hardcore fans of a dumb cop car. If you have to do something special to make something functional, that's not a feature, that's a bug.
And then, ye gods, the Linux fans. I know of someone who was berated for almost an hour over not using Linux. The person getting yelled at was like, 7. They are the smug Internet atheists of the tech world. They won't shut up about Linux. Their solution to anyone looking up how to fix something with their computer is to uninstall everything and switch to Linux, even if it's unrelated. If someone has a criticism for Linux they have a meltdown. They feel smug and superior in their choice of OS, euphoric and enlightened with their own intelligence.
That being said I'm probably going to switch to Linux anyway. Because fuck the changes windows made.
Upvoted not because it's unpopular, but because I agree. I used to be very Linux curious, but joining Lemmy has made me realize I'd rather put up with a kind-of-shitty OS that I never have to think about than dedicate my life to maintaining a good OS.
