Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

have a treat.

alt image (catbox, high quality)

so i got a net of babybel. they are expensive, wow. but they are really fun treats too. so now you get to take part in the babybel experience.

they really are little cheese wheels, aren't they? i guess it's the easiest stable of shape to get with cheese. a ball would take up too much storage and is harder to eat. but this flattened circle shape is pretty good.

i really want to get cought up on posts so that means two more today. i have a plan for the first, the second will be more difficult. let's see.

i wish you a wonderful day and I hope that you treat yourself after a difficult day <3

This is precious and cute and really fun and well done!! I love it. & Unwrapping them may be the best part, although they're very tasty, too. I also like playing with the wax and wadding it up into a ball and throwing it at someone.

The way you put this together is very satisfying! It's like the closest I can get to doing the unwrapping myself without actually having any. Good job!!

hmnawwww it's really sweet to hear you enjoyed it <3

[–] astropenguin5@lemmy.world 44 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You forgot the most important part, playing with the wax!!

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 10 points 1 day ago

...and then saving the wax, because it looks useful and you'll probably need it in the future, and you've been doing this for a while and now you have a big ball of red wax in the kitchen.

The forbidden snacc

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Mother ate a lot of babybel when I was growing up, I think they were easy to work into weight watchers number things.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 13 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Why do they need paper wrapped around the wax?

Kinda like cling wrap on a banana

[–] JadedBlueEyes@programming.dev 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

So they don't stick together

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 3 points 19 hours ago

Bananas don't stick together

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The wax is also not even compostable so idk what they're getting at with any pretense of environmentalism.

[–] jumping_redditor@sh.itjust.works 3 points 21 hours ago

the wax burns fine

[–] nickhammes@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

But if you don't add cling wrap, how do you make the chocolate covered banana nice and smooth?

Ads on your Feed? Its more likely than you think

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Send them an invoice. This is too well done to do for free :3

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

pffff i'm not doing it for free, i get to read your peeps' comments on it! and that makes me happy.

thank you for enjoying the post <3

[–] F04118F@feddit.nl 11 points 1 day ago (3 children)

CW: veganismTbh I would enjoy it even more if it didn't promote paying for babies to be taken from their mother and slaughtered mere months after birth, but I can't deny this drawing is really well done. I'll just pretend it's the cruelty-free plant-based babybel (which does exist!)

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i get where you are coming from and i did consider using the vegan babybels for the post. buuuut i couldn't find any of these at my local store so these were used instead.

I was so stoned once I ate them with the wax and everything. Still survived.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

SO WAS I!!!!!!

[–] WalkingOnEggshells@beehaw.org 14 points 1 day ago

This is missing the part where you play with the wax afterwards :3

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago

I take these on multi-day kayak trips. Some day I'm going to gouge my hull and the wax will save me. I can't wait to be a sponsored article in the local news.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait, they switched to paper wrappers? YAY PLASTIC FREE CHEESE

[–] antianarchist@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes and I really like the new papers. The plastic was often hard to open and it ripped into smaller pieces. The paper is super easy to open and obviously a bit friendlier to the environment. Which makes the product itself basically super ecologically friendly.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Wax wrappers are not compostable. They're also made with a petroleum mix. These are not ecofriendly.

[–] OmegaMouse@pawb.social 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I get babybels for my boyfriend each week and yeah they're pricey! But unwrapping them is fun and they're a handy way to transport cheese for hikes and stuff :3

I'm glad they use paper now instead of plastic

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 day ago

yesss they are a really sweet treat.

apparently the paper wrapper is a roll-out thing so we will have to wait for 2027 for this to become mostly universal.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

multiple bites? I always thought two of them is one bite

[–] Hazel@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I bought some for backpacking and apparently they keep for at least 8 hours unrefrigerated 👍🏼

[–] antianarchist@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

Absolutely. I never tried to test it, but the taste is the same, only the texture is softer.

Would love to know how they get produced, because I believe they create quite a sterile environment inside the wax. Like not fully sterile but like enough to keep it good for a couple of days.

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

They're wrapped in wax, I'd expect them to stay good at least a few days.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I can never get the second half of the cheese out intact.

[–] bownage@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I squeeze the corners of the wax inward a little, at the ends parallel to where you removed the strip and that makes it fully let go of the cheese. Then you can just take the full cheese out. Hope this makes sense if not I can try drawing it!

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I think I understand, but a drawing would rule.

[–] bownage@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

After this you can let go and the wax will be loose enough to take the cheese out :) but I drew this on my phone and don't know how to make more space on the canvas

Also in this example you have purple nails but it's not required!!

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 18 hours ago

aww what a cute drawing! <3 thanks for sharing

(will try next time I have one of em.... holds baby)

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

Okay drawing helped a lot. I didn't understand 🤣

You should post this as its own role, it's amazing.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

samsiesssss ~ i tried my best here, but you can see a little horizontal tare in the first "nom" image (where the shell is opened)

it's hard, but you can do it by just pushing the wax up a bit from below and that makes it come out. am surprised i didn't think of this as a kid.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Anyone who dares to call these things cheese should get prosecuted and put behind bars.

[–] Bysmuth@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What? Why? It's good chese. You can even grill it a bit to make it extra tasty

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 3 points 21 hours ago

Nah, the other comment was rough in its delivery but I agree, Babybel is one of these things that didn't hold up to my childhood memories when I tried it again as an adult, it's not bad, it's just mostly tasteless.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 20 hours ago

Clearly you never have had proper French, Italian, Dutch, British (yes they can do it too), Spanish, Portuguese and/or Swiss cheese.

These things are just tasteless factory junk.

[–] turbowafflz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

ive never had one, what kind of cheese is it?

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It’s a semi-soft cheese that’s mild and creamy in flavor. It’s closely modeled after young Edam cheese.

[–] antianarchist@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

And you can clearly taste some slight sour notes, as you would taste in yoghurt.

It is a young cheese so does not really have a strong cheesy flavor
