"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

FFVII, the low budget live action movie. A NETFLIX production, brought to you by NVIDIA.

Ah yes typical first crucial killing off its consumer brand due to "AI" and now Nvidia doing shit like this to gamers....who would've thought this would happen....🙂. Unfortunately, expect more companies to follow stuff like these and don't be surprised if integrated processor GPUs make a huge comeback like back in the day cuz GPU memories are "too expensive. The best we can do is DDR3 shared GPU CPU RAM"

Graphics were perfected in 2015. Everything else is price gouging.

What are they smoking at Nvidia that makes them think "oh, people will love this"

[–] lenocolomo@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 hours ago

Oh nothing really, just the green stuff. (I call it the "nv essence")

When are they going to realise video games are not about realism?

[–] Naz@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 hours ago

I know some brain damaged people who would disagree, they don't want to touch VR until it's "indistinguishable from reality".

Consider yourself lucky, that you still enjoy actual gameplay :>

You'll have to tell all those obsessed with playing the latest AAA slop in mega-ultra at 531649516782 fps in 4k with ray-tracing so they can see the ultrarealistic explosions. I know a few. The other day at work, one coworker just couldn't understand that I was fine playing a pixel art game on 1080p at 60fps because it looked "ugly as fuck"

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

I can't shed the people trying to convince me to shell out for a switch 2. I play on a 720p TV and have a major eye disability that can't tell the difference between that and 4k.

You mean at 30 fps frame-genned to 120 fps that still play like 30 but with more visual artifacts. Because that's what modern hardware gets you and that's what the next three generations of hardware will get you.

But at least I can brag about my fps counter being higher than yours! Otherwise, how am I going to justify buying the latest nvidia gpu?

But have you seen gta 6?? It's so pretty we don't even have to care about not seeing any gameplay! /

Tbf, we saw a lot of gameplay from the leaks so maybe they decided that, since we already saw gameplay from the leaks, it would be better to show us the cutscenes.

Damn, this is so true though. I didnt even think about that, though it really hits the nail on the head. My favourite games of all time are games like factorio, minecraft, diplomacy is not an option. Who cares about realistic graphics. Give me good gameplay.

jensen so classy

Wow, it did an AMAZING job recreating the face of the actual human actress they modeled Jesse Faden after, it's uncanny! /s https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1890824/

It's a good demonstration that partially-fmv games could leverage this to blend fmv and rendered scenes more if you trained it on your actors and sets. You would need significantly higher fidelity facial animations, however.

For anything even slightly less realistic, ew no.

I don't understand the uproar. It seems like applying the filter mainly fixed white balance so the character wasn't orange.

[–] Dionysus@leminal.space 4 points 17 hours ago

Wait, they used it on Trump?

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Which character are you talking about? There are multiple in the article. And one looks more orange to me post-filter.
