I don't even understand how it's non-zero.
Oh, it's the racism, sexism, xenophobia and of course the current Faux fave: transphobia. That's about the only thing sustaining his numbers.

That sounds right. There's a chunk of the population that just have broken brains and souls. They'll follow their king to the grave.
Which is unfortunately about the bar you need for authoritarianism. 1/3 of the people to actively support you and 1/3 of the people to do nothing and you're there.
By comparison Friederich Merz, the German Chancellor, has a 13% approval rating. Emanuel Macron, the French President, has an approval rating of 18%
Meanwhile Trump never went under 35%.
I think that's almost an inevitable mathematical difference between a two party system and multi party systems with n > 2.
The hardened center of a party won't abandon their guy at the head of the executive, so they form the floor for the approval rating. In a party ostensibly representing half the people, that hardened center will be large, and is apparently 35% large for the Republicans.
In comparison France has 8 relevant parties, Germany has 6 relevant parties (or 5 if we combine the Union, which is mostly just separated into Bayern/not-Bayern but otherwise the same). So their hardened centers will also be much smaller.
I don't really have much hope for the US system, this concentration of power with constant internal stalemating will eventually kill them. But the incumbent parties don't want to change the voting system. So there is no way out.
But Europe still has thinking people. The US only has fanatic fan bases.

If he holds on to power past January 2029, he won't need anyone's approval to do it.

Not really relevant, polling anyways. Not like he's up for election and pretending he gave a shit about anyone other than himself, well youre probably part of the problem if youve have given that narrative any wind.

According to Gallup Truman has the lowest approval rating at 22%. Trump isn't on empty yet.
Truman dropped two nukes and got blamed for ww2 without reason, if his approval wasn't low it would be odd.
Paywalled, maybe I'm wrong. But no, it's not stuck on empty. It's stuck at 35%, pretty much the exact same as Biden during his term, and Trump during his first term. Approval ratings seem increasingly useless.
