Last month, Goodstein had temporarily blocked the state’s election commission from releasing its voter files to the Department of Justice, a decision that was openly criticized by Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon and later reversed by the state Supreme Court. The DOJ had sought the information, including names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, and social security numbers, of over three million registered voters as part of President Donald Trump’s March executive order restricting non-citizens from registering to vote. (Non-citizens are already not allowed to vote in federal and state elections.)

Can't wait to see them try to spin this as 'radical left terrorists'.

[–] DreamAccountant@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Why? You know they'll just put out some stupid bullshit like they do every single day. They look foolish constantly. Aren't you tired of it? Aren't you convinced that they're completely incompetent and violent religious terrorists yet?

I don't want to see how they lie about this. I want to see them in jail.

You know, I think maybe, just maybe, they were being sarcastic with the "can't wait" part.

Violence and terrorism are as Republican as diddling kids and proudly not understanding female anatomy.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm gonna steal that. Its mine now.

...civil war 2.0, official start....

The assassination of Melissa Hortman has a better argument for that. Or, you know, the attempted military occupation of cities. Or, you know, the violent insurrection and attempt at lynching congress and the VPOTUS.

The issue is, we’ve had several glaring red lines that have been passed, but we’re all still waiting for “something big”.

We also need more people to agree it’s time. I know I don’t want to go off to civil war on my own. Especially against the massive techno fueled machine the US military is. Hmm, maybe the way it has to go down is a schism in the military so it’s a fair fight. Or other countries have to get involved to protect the working class, and we know how well that goes.

Also, capitalism has worked well enough for the billionaires that the vast majority of us can’t survive more than a month unemployed, and if we go commit to a guerrilla movement there’s gonna have to be some other kind of support system which isn’t there yet.

Plus the mainstream dems and centrists are going to keep riding their high horse right to the firing line where they will get shot but feel so good about themselves because they never gave in to violence. “…at least…I never….owned a gun….” dies

This has nothing to do with capitalism. Well, okay, the powers involved are but an oligarchy is just one of many paths to fascism.

Under a full blown managed economy and communism, do you think the government being rebelled against is going to make sure all those rebels have food and housing?

The biggest issue with the US that prevents things like people straight beating on riot cops in Korea is our culture of gun violence. There is no real room for escalation. You either have the "parade protest" where everyone is focused on their costumes and signs or a full blown riot that is going to be put down with "rubber bullets" with almost nothing in between. And even the former is just begging for a fat white kid to come unload on you.

Which makes it a lot harder to have any meaningful form of resistance until... shit gets REALLY REALLY bad.

The final(?) episode of The Alt-Right Playbook goes over this pretty eloquently.

Fucking always South Carolina

Oh please. This isn’t about voter fraud, this is about compiling a list of everyone whose voted against Trump.
