Fuck AI
"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
"Self driving cars only have to be smarter than the average human"
Cue Star Trek Enterprise s1 opening theme
They often are

I want to believe.
Maybe I should start a side gig as witch
Start a main gig as a witch. It's fun up here ;)
I'll get you my pretty, and your little car too!
This an artwork of the artist James Bridle https://jamesbridle.com/works/autonomous-trap-001
Meant to say that that car is in no way, shape or form capable of lane assist, let alone self drive
Never underestimate the power of a well cast low level spell.
What types of cameras do these self-driving cars use? I'm just saying, there's got to be a way to confuse and redirect them that's invisible to the naked human eye.
I motion we organise and send every self-driving shitty excuse for a train to one massive pit.
There was a video a while ago where a tesla took a hard 90° left turn at 60 mph directly into a tree ostensibly because of some road repair work that looked like painted lines when the sun hit them right.
Anything black and reflective, something that reflects IR or just an IR emitter like from a TV remote.
I keep wanting to make a thing that will shoot small shredded bits of aluminum foil. I have the feeling this could make a self driving car stop if it uses radar.
I have a car with some limited self-driving capability, I should just try it out.
why invisible? just use salt magic
Googled it and: Standard AI cameras do not see ultraviolet (UV) or infrared (IR) light natively because manufacturers install a physical blocking filter over the image sensor
So I think it would take hacking their software somehow or poisoning their map data to do what you suggest.
That's not how any of this works.
It's just regular lidar for the most part.
Also that's just unsafe and dangerous to potential passengers. What's next? Doing a little terrorism?
Thinking this is weird and circle jerking causes some fuck to do a terrorism. Online incels have caused people to go nuts and kill women for being just that. You gotta be careful with hate.
Doing a little terrorism?
so, and please forgive me because i have forgotten all but the two important details of this story and that really bugs me, one of my favorite artists went up and down the (i think spanish) riviera and put giant oversized beach umbrellas like every 50 feet for maybe 5 miles? it looked absolutely gorgeous. he just spiked them into the sand.
a few days went by and then the wind really picked up. and those umbrellas just went rolling down the beach. not as huge of a problem as you'd think, until you wonder about those spiky ends. I don't remember if anyone was hurt and i hope no one or thing was.
i've always been inspired by the story though. wanted to do some grand gesture of art that resulted in accidental (and it's very important that it's accidental) very very mild environmental ecoterrorism or something like that. you never want to hurt anyone
one specific company's cars do not use lidar, and can thus be confused by salt
EDIT: oops I thought it was reading the salt as a physical obstacle, but no, it reads it as a road marking. oops.
They still use vis spectrum cameras.
yeah i just had a small brain fart, nothing to worry about
White paint should work too!
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!
