Honestly, you don't need subscriptions to live, and you certainly don't need to make use of klarna lmao.
Klarna and subscriptions are kinda voluntary though. Technically so is debt, but that's... a difficult topic

Klarna? Why is that there?
Loans for small things are high risk and aren't worth it for a bank in a normal economy. People can't afford the basics and have to lay-away like in the great depression. Klarna is the canary in the mine.
Ah okay. I just use Klarna as a credit card type thing, and pay my invoice every month. 🤷♂️ Sorry, I wasn't aware it was used as a means to survive.
It was a big thing I think it was last year that people were relying on klarna for their food shopping.
If my face is gonna melt anyway let me have my fun.

I mean they suck, I am pretty sure they breached my phone number, but how are they relevant?
Klarna is actively incentivising unhealthy spending patterns, employing dark patterns, stuff like that.

I hope the next time someone pays in front of you, it's for a single, inexpensive item. Also, it's the slowest person you've ever seen and they start paying in cash, come up short, make up the difference in a hand-written, personal cheque. Then they remember they have a coupon. It's expired. The cashier calls for a manager override. The customer writes another check for the new balance. Before handing it over, the customer remarks the price label looks incorrect. The cashier gets a price check, confirms the new correct price. Another manager override. Another check. The cashier takes up the cash and realizes one of the coins is of a foreign denomination. The manager is over it by now and tries to pay for the item, but the customer is too proud and insists on paying for it themself, remarking they've "never taken a handout in their life." One of the less patient customers behind you jokingly asks if they'd like to round up for charity. Turns out they very much would and that's about when the pen begins running out of ink, but they're determined to make it work.
This would make an excellent curse to cast on someone. I do wonder if it might be a bit too brutal for c/mildcurses@piefed.social though.

No one is buying a hot dog using Klarna except as a joke. It's just hire purchase.
If that's affecting you particularly, then you chose to buy a hot dog on a loan AND you failed to pay it off in time. Far cry from inflation and taxes which affect everyone.
Subscriptions are in the meme and people choose those.
Oh those too, but a Netflix subscription is still a better deal than buying tons of movies and shows. There's literally no reason to be getting klarna hot dogs other than because you're an idiot.
Technically using klarna costs nothing if you pay on time... just like credit cards. Of course they prey on those who don't.
Is this meme trying to say that trying to scrape what little joy we can out of the world... is a bad thing?
People are able to do multiple things, just not necessarily at the same time. And most don't have the mental or emotional fortitude to spend 100% of their time on fixing everything that's wrong with the world.
Treat or no treat, we are all in the same house and the house is on fire. Might as well have your treat.
I stopped paying for subscriptions a while back in favor of Jellyfin/ad-based competitors and was floored by how much bigger their libraries are with far more respectable privacy policies (some don't even require an email address)
Only real "drawback" is they aren't as much part of the current zeitgeist
