That one is actually genius tho
That's a very, very common project management analogy.
I choose to believe that the fact that I had only just recently heard it for the first time means I have made some very good choicesin my life.
They changed "circle back to it" to "triangle back to it". This person must be fun at work. You make something that is slightly off but sounds familiar and everyone goes into a state of self-doubt of "maybe I remembered it wrong, they must be right". 😂 "Idea fridge" is probably some kind of backlog or product backlog.
My company 'continuous improvement' department use the 'Parking lot' to throw away the ideas that dont fit their pre-planned brain-storming. Good idea, it just not in the scope right now, but we'll put it in the parking lot.
I’ve used just about everything as a stand in for money in conversations.
39 ghost tails? Too expensive for me.
No one seems to notice.
I always do gumballs. Easy conversion, just strange enough to turn heads.
Unironically, I think "put that in the idea fridge" is good because it'll keep the idea at a lower temperature and prevent it from spoiling as fast so you can eat it later
It’s better than “back burner” because if you forget something there it’ll burn on the bottom.
That's usually the goal.
I'm not convinced, but I'll put that in the idea fridge so we can triangle back later.
Sometimes you need to put it in the idea oven, because it wasn't fully baked
If I ever get hired to a workplace like this, just shoot me immediately before I start my first day.
Had a marketing co-worker (semiconductor industry) who managed to get C-level execs to use the phrase "tea-bagging" to refer to sending hardware samples to various reviewers or journalists. It was endlessly amusing to hear in a company-wide presentation. He was so proud.
I'm sure Nate's had other career highlights since then, but that was certainly an early success.
That man is a genius unparalleled
Making me think of how the cardinals were "raw dogging" when deciding the new pope
We don't use words because they mean something. They mean something because we use them.
Well, it feeds back into itself. It's vicious triangle.
context -> meaning -> usage -> context
It really is a triangle huh. Great idea we just had, whoever said that. I think this idea really came out of the room. Let's get this cooking on the front burner of the idea stove and infinitigon back around to it when we all have bandwidth.
I'm not entirely convinced, but I see the potential merit. Maybe let's just let that greased idea pig loose and see if a farmer tries to wrestle it.
This is just LinkedIn live action role play
Back in the 1990s, a colleague and I manage to get the “Performance Enterprise Network Information System” project endorsed and launched across a team of several hundred people. Someone remarked it was a bit of a mouthful. We were very proud.
Doesn't seem very hard until you're actually messing around with it hands-on.
We don't need that project anymore, let's just slide it into a hole somewhere
Tbh I like the principle of an idea fridge.
It can be easily understood as something that is paused, and only paused, for a short period of time but then continued.
The rest I don't quite see the usefulness.
And like most things in my fridge it'll get thrown out in a week or so, when it inevitably goes off due to non-use. For some reason I feel much happier about throwing away food after it's been mildly chilled for 14 days.
Yeah, the idea fridge is where you put an idea you don't want right now but you feel guilty about throwing it out right away. So you let it sit in there until it has undeniably gone bad and you have to throw it out, but it's not your fault because you were totally going to take it back out but you couldn't have predicted that it would spoil. Oh well, can't do anything about that.
Maybe we can also have an "Idea Gym" - you'll constantly pay for the idea of using it in the future. You don't cancel the idea gym membership because you feel bad about losing access to the idea, even though the chances of ever taking up the idea are very slim.
I visit other people’s offices from time to time as part of my job. I take every opportunity I can get to sneak into unused meeting rooms to draw a comprehensively labelled Actualising Hexagon Methodology on the whiteboard for others to find
Can you give us a doodle so we know what you're talking about?
It’s a constantly evolving work in progress, but if you take a stripped-down version of the Delta Synergizing Septagon and combine it with a recontextualized boosted Growth Pentagon and add the sharp bits of the Meatatomy Penticle then you can figure out the rest from there. Just don’t forget the 9 Elements on the outside and Degloving Dave in the centre
Hexagon methodology: powering the transition from computers to comphreeters, one keyboard are a time!
I'm circling back, much smoother ride.
That's why you need autistic people in a team.
Business jargon comes from soldiers when they joined the corporate world after ww2. https://youtu.be/HSbYUEaAwLI
So if you use jargon you basically engage in Tactical LARPing. Might as well use fantasy words and LARP as a wizard in the office.
There has probably always been business jargon, because every specialized field develops its own jargon.
For example, "benchmark" is used in various fields in a loose sense of a point of reference that you use to judge other things. But, it originally comes from surveying where it was a mark cut into stone to secure a "bench", a kind of bracket used for mounting the levelling staff.
There's also probably a lot of business jargon from the "Scientific Management" process created by Frederick Winslow Taylor. He was extremely influential in the business community, and no doubt coined lots of terms that are still in use today.
This is essentially how living language works.
Gay meant showy and carefree as in we'll have a gay ol' time! In the late 19th and early 20th centuries gay became a euphemism for fellows who liked the company of other men for romance instead of women, as those dudes were, well, a bit queer, and it wasn't polite to talk about such things in mixed company. People in the mlm category often expressed showiness and had a carefree (family-light) lifestyle and so other conversants generally caught on.
Heck, there's kind of a euphemism revolution going on in social media since posts and comments can commonly be flagged for talking about delicate subjects, and keywords can draw the notice of uninvited readers (and put people on watch lists). Hence suicide becomes unlife, rape becomes grape, Israel becomes Is-not-so-real and so on.
Recently, a correspondent started using blood libel as a noun referring to those outrageous MAGA lies used to demonize outgroups, such as They're eating the dogs! It's much the way the original blood libel was an accusation against Jewish folk (used by the Nazis, but it didn't originate with them). I picked it up quickly.
(Blood libels are more effective if they're implausible since they serve for costly signaling. By chirping out one in conversation, a MAGA signals their nature to other MAGA while sounding unhinged to anyone else.)
When I read let's triangle back on that I interpreted it to mean, going back to the desk to verify facts and develop the idea, stopping in the lunch room for a snack, and coming back to the next meeting, well prepared. That makes sense to me.
The idea refrigerator sounds like what someone might suggest if they don't know the expression to table that [idea] for now. Greenbeards sonetimes get confused by tabling used as a verb. I think it's unintuitive.
This dude's new lexicon may have been random, but we human beings are so good at constellationing (seeing intent and skill in simple video-game AI) that we'll find meaning in word salad by inference and intuition.
(It's also how Trump can spout gibberish and his base reads it as four-dimensional chess. Those of us more savvy, recognize a fast talk and flim-flam when we see it, sometimes from the experience of being fooled by confidence ploys before.)

This one is tricky because it goes opposite ways across the pond. In the UK Parliament to table a bill means they're going to bring it up for consideration right now. In fact bills and motions under consideration are actually laid out on that central table in the House of Commons.

In US Congress, a motion to lay on the table is a request to halt consideration on a bill for an indefinite (and probably infinite) period. There is no physical table in the US Congress where dead bills are placed.
A joke like this reminds me that anyone can optimize an FTJ and get an exponential boost in REB from their entire team. Something like that is a GAME CHARGER for morale, especially with all the CCD mandates in corporate America these days stressing out all the entry level TBs and bottlenecking XPX logistics in Q5 segments.

Usually I hear those corpo bullshit terms and just zone out. Nothing of value is going to follow so it doesn't matter. Not worth my time.
They are the people who could be replaced with an LLM at no loss, you could also replace them with a kitten for +8 to staff morale.
There was one time I was chatting with a coworker and they mentioned wanting to apply for a higher position. When I asked them why they wanted the position I got hit with their elevator speech and I heard a bunch of buzzwords but nothing of substance. It was really strange because all of our other conversations were normal and kinda a red flag because it was so rehearsed and un-genuine
I love how easy it is to change language
You can really just make up words, the more ambiguous the better, and people will assign meaning to them and start using them
Welcome to corporate life, where everything is bullshit.
Genius. I'd love to see the rest of this guy's idea fridge.
Manager: This idea for the project is so fetch.
Manager: If it's not fetch then get fetch.
Programmer: Which repo are we git fetch ing?
