$10 million isn't nearly enough, especially considering how wantonly they abused this woman's rights. It should have been obvious that this woman from Tennessee who had never been to North Dakota, or even been on an airplane, was the wrong person, but they didn't even bother to apply the slightest bit of Critical Thinking to her case, so they kept her locked up for six months, as she remained terrified that she'd spend the rest of her life in prison. Then when they finally released her, it was on Christmas Eve, in the cold, in North Dakota. That alone should cost them $10 million.
The city is going to want to settle, and settle big, but she should drag them through the courts anyway, humiliate them for their virtuosic incompetence, and maybe the jury will award her an even larger amount. I would, if I were on the jury.
