I have a friend who had ONE geology class in university, majored in physical geography. But he is known as the rocks guy, since nobody knows what his major actually is.
I was on an island holiday recently, where the most prominent rock formation is simply called "the rock". I sent him one of these perspective trick photos where it locks like I'm licking 'the rock' with the message: "me, a real geologist".
He was mildly amused.
On a more “licking” note than an “LSD” note - in geology 101, had a group exam where we had to identify mineral samples. Group spent 50% of the total time waffling on deciding how to identify the last two samples - salt and quartz. We knew one was one, and the other the other. Finally got tired of arguments about clarity or cleavage or whatever other nonsense we had in that elective. I had places to be. Licked one. Then the other. Second one was salt. Probably wasn’t the first college student to lick those samples either.
Licensed Professional Geologist here, and licking is a totally valid method for distinguishing between mineral hand samples that have very similar properties otherwise. For instance, halite (NaCl, aka table salt) and sylvite (KCl) are isomorphous, which means they have the exact same crystal structure and are very difficult to distinguish using traditional methods. Halite tastes like salt, but sylvite makes your tongue tingle when licked. Our mineralogy professor told is it's the only reliable way to differentiate the two without actual chemistry analysis.

Between halite and quartz, absolutely. Halite and sylvite have the Moh's hardness of 2, so your keys would scratch both.
I like KCl, it makes my food taste better when I replace 1/3 to 1/2 of the NaCl in a recipe with KCl (in addition to adding the remaining amount of NaCl)

Wouldn't a scratch test have worked just as well? Quartz is extremely hard, halite is relatively soft. Scratch one against the other, and whichever one is damaged is salt.
One dissolves in water, the other doesn't.

There is a laundry list of odorless tasteless microgram dose psychedelics that are extremely comparable to LSD and indistinguishable except to an extremely advanced psychonaut.
If you go to a festival and take drugs and think that it's real LSD, that's laughable ignorance. Statistically, it's almost impossible to find LSD.
I go to Shambhala and they do free drug testing. Every LSD I get, I get it tested. The Ehrlich reagent test turns purple for indoline structures and it’s so much easier to get LSD than the other LSD prodrugs that would cause this to be purple, like 1P-LSD, 1V-LSD, or 1B-LSD. Research from both DanceSafe and The Loop show that actual and pure LSD dominates over synthetics at music fests. I’d love to see your sources because I’m intrigued.
Its real. This isn't 2009-2014 anymore. People have test kits at festivals too that will test what you've acquired for free.

We had drug prevention class (as a project week) in high school. One street worker guy just informed us, what is commonly used and what these drugs do, their dangers and safety precautions, if we decide to take them anyways. That was way better, and more effective, than the "drugs are bad"-speech the cop gave the other day.
LSD was the only one, that sounded somewhat intriguing to me. Never tried it, because I'm worried about bad trips and possible permanent damage. What is your take on that?
A friend of mine kept telling me you couldn't find lsd anymore so I looked it up. There was a mass testing done a few years back that wanted to see what people were really buying when they bought lsd and it turned out it was almost all pure lsd and within expected dose.

The hard part is having it do that consistently. I strongly believe that research into lysergimides could lead to the discovery of a variation that makes you more coordinated and creative without the hallucinogenic effects.
There is mild historical proof that that early humans consumed grains contaminated with ergot (what lsd is derived off)on purpose before hunting.

I really really doubt that people ate ergot infected grain on purpose. Ergotism led to like black limbs when they fucked up and ate infected grain.
People throw around ergot theory WAY more than is rational. It was not a generic solution to Salem witch trials, did not appear everywhere in every climate, and was very obvious in the grain usually showing up as black horns on specifically your rye that grew in a cold and wet climate.
You would have to have let it grow, then grind the rye still and process it ignoring the black horns on it, then sell that flour or eat it. This was a major fuck up and not just bread that got moldy. It was rye that had very obvious infection and still got processed. Bread doesn't just grow ergot mold after being baked.
There's probably way more psychedelics they could have fucked with to hunt and even then I doubt it unless it was like a ritualistic/religious activity related to hunting.
Another thing on historical myths... The Salem witch trials weren't just people attacking mid wives and herbalists. Herbalists were called physics and respected as not witchcraft. They didn't care if you brewed people teas to heal ailments and shit like that. That wasnt considered magic and evil.
People literally still practiced folk magic and there were some girls admitting to doing Venus eggs, where you crack an egg over water and divine what trade your future husband would do. Divination was legitimately considered evil. And when they confessed and repented, they were forgiven and led normal lives.
Interestingly, it was the people who confessed and repented that survived these times, and likely just a bunch of shitty cops going after people who the confessers pointed the finger at who said "lol no of course I didn't sign my name in the devil's book". Several people who didn't confess died, people who others said they saw them do it. And some dude who was actually going around telling peoples futures got executed.
But it was all a bit more complicated than ergotism or even plain misogyny.

Oh man, when I was just getting into acid I took a tab one Saturday morning and watched Fellowship of the Ring Extended in the frat living room. Felt like watching a DnD campaign. As it was ending one of the guys and his friend I hadn’t met walked in setting up tables and their PCs. I asked what was going on and he was like “Jaycifer, today is the LAN party, did you forget?”
I had, I played Quake III for the first time that evening. I had never really played a boomer shooter before, but that was one of the most intense multiplayer experiences I’ve ever had. I got my hands on a rocket launcher and I swear I had a sixth sense for knowing where someone was going to be to blow them up.
