Dunno origin, but id throw a rope or small chain into loop and attach next to saddle of my horse or maybe belt of my pants, so i'd keep it around all the time. It's for carrying.

I’m pretty sure it’s the same as those tiny milk bottles that look just like the gallons, these are just based off the larger jugs they used to use.
I think traditionally you'd want it while glass-blowing and shaping, but obviously these aren't handcrafted so it's more of a cosmetic piece.
