When an American says something just assume the complete opposite is the truth.

Trash people, the lot of em.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 6 points 3 hours ago

Zero chance? We have a fucking MORON as our president and the pedo has fired most of the military that won't follow illegal orders. Crimes against humanity mean nothing to him, and the shitheads that should be stopping him just shrug.

Fucker is going to attack cuba next! Guess since Iran isn't making him look good, he's got to find another distraction. All of this because he is a child rapist.

[–] damnthefilibuster@lemmy.world 14 points 4 hours ago

He would know because Alaska is traditionally the center of political and strategic decisions in the US, right? Right??

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 23 points 5 hours ago

Without invading, the US is alreafy attacking Canada's sovereignty. And we can't believe anything a Unitedstater politician says anyway.

The governors and politicians always say the US won't do such and such, only for their orange turd in charge to do it anyway.

This is just air. Those words are meaningless.

It was zero chance when we didn't have to consider these risks. Now its more than zero. How high? No one knows, but it sure as hell aint zero.

For Sure.

0% < Chance of US Invasion of Canada < Chinese/Russian Invasion of Canada

One thing you can be sure of is that if the USA did invade Canada that a lot of US Citizens and possibly some states will be enlisting to fight with the Canadians.

[–] CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world 13 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Respectfully disagree. US is higher than russia or china invading.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 hours ago

At this precise moment in time? Probably. Over the next 50 years? US invasion is less likely.

But as the world warms, all countries will be looking at the land closest to the poles.

Eventually there’s going to be a major war over Antarctica, but probably not in my lifetime.

I think you're giving Americans too much credit to think they'd fight alongside the Canadians.

I mean, didn't the UN just release a report to do with that Iranian school children bombing, saying basically "Palantir told the military to press red button. Military pressed red button. Hundreds of schoolkids died". Americans don't give a shit. They're actively, openly committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, and laughing about it. When you see their military/government trying to pretend like it's a 0% chance/unthinkable, or refusing to answer if they'd invade because it's "so preposterous a thought!", it's pageantry.

You don't need to look much further than how ICE has been allowed to generally continue on with their agenda in US cities, to know that the 'resistance' to this sort of event would be practically non-existent, and ineffective. Or you can look at all the Americans online saying shit like "Well, I didn't vote for him (so MY conscience is clear and I don't have to do anything more!)". They'd MAYBE log in to facebook and send thoughts and prayers. The democrats would write an angry letter. That's it.

The factor you're missing is that in Canada we can take the fight to them in a way no other country can.

You're right that they don't care about violence elsewhere. They will care when the bridge outside their town gets blown up. Their willingness to endure pain is next to zero.

[–] wampus@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

At best, Canada would be able to do guerrilla type cell warfare. But Canada itself would be fucked.

Think about the recent announcement to do with building a "Sovereign Canadian Internet". That move highlights, quite explicitly, how we effectively don't have data cables running east west across Canada, nor do we have significant Canadian data pipelines to other nations -- we use the American backbone. So even our basic communications east / west across the country, for coordinating actions, would be obliterated in like the first hour of a serious conflict. Land lines are practically archaic at this stage, and every Canadian government institution is reliant on Microsoft, and US services/backbones. In the first hour, that's all toast. Almost all of our banks and financial institutions, and their regulators, are reliant on US service providers to function -- our ATMs run on fucking windows -- so all that goes poof.

Yes, a small cell with a modest drone setup and a chicken coup in the woods could develop bio weapons and spray it all over American cities, or do something like cow-ebola and spray their mega farms to fuckup their beef supply. We could inflict pain, yes, but we'd lose the overall conflict very quickly in terms of our institutions and country being reduced to shit.

Even more, Id also argue that Canadians wouldn't generally fight back. It's not like regular Canadians own a shitload of guns, like in the states. Even more, a huge number of Canadians identify more with their country of origin, than with Canada -- Trudeau even bragged about how Canada was the first "post national" country with no fuckin identity/cohesion, as though it was a good thing. Our population has been dependent on immigration for growth since like 2000, with a huge percentage of our younger people not really giving a fuck about "Canada" as a country. How much resistance do you think something like the millions of newly immigrated Indians between the ages of 18-30 are going to step up and fight America? Hell, many of them wanted to use Canada as a stepping stone to get American visas/citizenship anyhow, so an invasion speeds up their plans / helps them. There's no reason to think that people without a history in Canada would fight to protect it en masse.

Bridge outside their town?

If US invades us I'm bringing the fight a lot fucking closer to home than a bridge.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

A significant portion of the US is rightfully pissed, but oppressed by the fascist and fascist enabling majority. However, I do feel like war with Canada would be seen as enough excuse to get spicier

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

People have been chasing ICE out of neighborhoods, banning them from city properties in LA and NYC, building rap sheets to try them once the admin leaves office in Colorado, etc, but fundamentally they're a political problem that can't be solved with violence (without creating much much more violence and harm in the process).

If the USA starts a war with Canada many Americans will see joining Canada as a means of improving their own situation: Canada would likely offer citizenship to enlistees.

[–] wampus@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Dream on.

Americans would react similarly to how the general citizen of Russia has acted during the Ukraine conflict. So long as their regular lives aren't disrupted by the conflict, the vast majority would shrug and not give a shit. Or, they'd do exactly as you just noted, and say "This is a political problem that can't be solved with violence (without creating much much more violence and harm in the process)".

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Russian defectors helped capture territory for Ukraine in Belgorod Oblast, and a short lived Russian civil war occured not long after the war began.

And thats after decades in oppression and a century in authortarian turmoil. The USA with all its revolutionary spirit would be a far different story.

[–] wampus@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 hours ago

You have way too much faith still, in a country that's basically gone to absolute shit, while it's people shrugged. The idea that the USA has a "revolutionary spirit" is a hollywood fantasy, and your argument just sounds like more "American exceptionalism", the likes of which allowed them to sleep walk into fascism. "It couldn't possibly be happening here, we're AMERICA!"

[–] DeadEndLink@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 hours ago

Who tf would believe a MAGA governor after what they've done to their own people?

Ohhh interview in Banff Alberta....got it...

[–] i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 hours ago

The Alaska governor should know, because I have it on good authority that they have a ton of foreign policy credentials because they can SEE Russia from Alaska.

(That’s an old reference to Sarah Palin’s hilariously stupid and failed attempt to run for Vice President years ago)

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 8 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

If they attacked Canada they would lose immediately.

[–] BlameThePeacock@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

They wouldn't lose immediately, they would have lost before they even attacked. Their own military personnel would likely refuse orders, sabotage the mission, desert, or surrender immediately. I'm sure there would be a few people willing to follow orders, but you can't run an invasion when 1/3rd of your own soldiers are actively attempting to prevent you succeeding.

[–] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

This is far too positive an outlook.

I bet way more people would follow orders.

[–] BlameThePeacock@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

I don't think you realize how many US military personnel have worked directly with Canadians regularly as part of their career, especially the ones in charge of everything. We are pretty much constantly running military training exercises and joint missions at this point.

We've got a ship docked at your base in Hawaii right now. Pacific Rimguard 2026 just wrapped up in Asia with another one of our warships. There are hundreds of Canadian military personnel permanently stationed at NORAD. We spent 13 years in Afghanistan with the US.

Even if only 10% were intentionally fucking up, it would still absolutely cripple the capabilities.

Not to mention the complete lack of a useful target. What are they going to do to "capture" the country? Kidnap the prime minister? Our system doesn't actually have a problem handling that. You could hold our entire parliament hostage and you still wouldn't actually be able to get Canadians to do anything useful. What would the point be?

Taking our the 10 military bases we have? We wouldn't even give a shit, they don't run or do anything that we need to function as a country.

Afghanistan was a shit show, and the people were a different skin colour and spoke a different language, soldiers could at least somewhat talk themselves into keeping things "separate" mentally. However, do you think the average American soldier is going to be able to shoot people that looks like their own brother, sister, son, daughter, father, mother, etc. they left at home without immediately having a mental breakdown?

We saw this kind of shit already happen between Russia and Ukraine, where lots of Russians just decided to surrender or do their least. It doesn't work well, even with a dictatorship willing to shoot you for disobeying. If the US military tried to punish or shoot soliders en masse for refusing to invade Canada you'd have riots in every single city in the US.

Bull, shit.
