I have to say, this war on Old Reddit is doing wonders to curb my Reddit use.
I stopped commenting years ago. Old reddit changes stopped me browsing too.
I cant get into old reddit anymore. Im kinda bummed as there is some subreddits like the litrpg community I cant find here or anywhere on the fedi. Oh well...

That change helped reduce scraping and automated abuse, but still allowed any logged-in account to access Old Reddit, including accounts with no prior Old Reddit use.
To close this gap, in the next few months, we'll further limit access for logged-in users to only those who have used Old Reddit in the last six months
How horrible, ANY logged-in account can just access old reddit?? That needs to be fixed asap, how dare new users just use old reddit when they have a perfectly good shreddit available to them. — Reddit admins apparently

I only use reddit now to mod two subreddits. If I lose that account, that's it, I'm gone. I already stopped posting news to my local city one because I just don't care enough.

I never posted anything close to political or "sketchy" either. Was never impolite; it was just a place for niches. I still don't know why I was banned/shadowbanned...
I am not signed in and old reddit works fine. I have noticed that subreddit specific search nsfw tick boxes dont always load for whatever reason.

Oh God they are dumping RSS too? Fucking hell that's the only way I even use that platform anymore since it means getting a handful of news updates on some games without going there.

Why are we still caring what Reddit does?
Because realistically I can only scroll on Fedi for maybe 20-30 minutes in a day before I've seen everything and if I have more time to kill, Reddit is there. Although I don't comment there at all anymore, it's truly worthless for conversation.
Reddit is fantastic for certain niche communities. On the whole, it fucking sucks, but it does contain so much helpful info because it just brings people together over a specific topic.
There is literally nowhere else I can go for live game threads for sports as good as reddit.
not that it's much of an improvement but there is Discord.

Because when Reddit fucks up those users will look for alternatives, like Lemmy.
In this case it's important to highlight that Lemmy has many different front ends and apps available. Lemmy can look however you'd like it to look.
Because to forget it is to repeat it.

Until a comment you makes pisses off a power tripping mod and then you are permabanned from like 16 communities.
Shits infected here too.
All the communities with power tripping mods here are either minor or have significant viable alternatives.
Heck you can make your own instance (as others have) and do what you want!

Luckily, Lemmy is a place, where you can communicate with the actual human beings.
I wish Lemmy was as searchable as Reddit.

Wow, that really is awful. If I don't use Reddit every six months I'm permanently kicked out of it?
I rarely go there, but when I do want to look up something I like to have the option.

really? you expect me to believe the majority of old reddit users are old reddit users?
I still follow some webcomics and search for things occasionally on Reddit. Using Redlib has been fantastic. Don't need to worry about their interface changes. Don't need to worry about having an account. Just input the few subscriptions I need into the Redlib docker container. All my devices are setup to redirect Reddit links to my Redlib deployment.

Reddit search barely works
Yeah you know it's bad when you start to use Google to search for stuff on Reddit because it's better at doing it than Reddit's own search.
TBF, Google search was better at searching most sites than any search function those sites had. Up until a few years ago anyway.

yep. Forums used to be a thing but they have faded a long while ago for things like reddit and discord. Real websites are usually garbage designed to trip search engine results and now it's a ton of AI slop too.
So people started including reddit in their search to get the info they wanted. And now reddit has noticed and is leaning into that
