IIRC Google researchers have publicly used it for machine learning experiments. For example, for grabbing a sample video as part of some demo code.

the same category as illegal downloading websites.

Doesn't parse, please make it make sense.

How soon before WINE is included in this?

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Valve is heavily involved with that project now. Nobody would dare tilt at that windmill now.

Bold of you to assume that the boomers at these outdated organisations know who valve is

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At least Valve has money to get a great defense lawyer for this not to happen.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

That’s my point. The boomers don’t need to know who valve is. The lawyers know.

Of course it's the music industry...

Can it download any of those paid movies? That might be the only thing that makes sense

It's not piracy anyway even if that worked as the owner isn't being deprived of what they own.

That's not what piracy is, though. That's why piracy isn't theft.

I would expect it can as long as you can provide a cookie for a login that owns the movie. But you know what can also do that? Firefox with OBS running, it just takes the full runtime to download.

AFAIK, most streaming services have some sort of a DRM system that won't let you screen capture a video. Not like it is impossible to circumvent. Not even hard, I may say. But it is still there.

I thought this said the International Federation of the Pornographic Industry and got really confused lmao.

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, that particular federation can't be mad at yt-dlp right now, because PornHub support is broken right now. It appears. I've been told.

[–] Kaligalis@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

The version 2026.08.19 - the current version in the Gentoo repo - works fine on PornHub. I just tested it.
