Hey that works on Lemmy as well. Just PM me your card (front and back), your home address, your passport, your SSN, and the product you're after, and I'll order it for you!

Pre-AI: Companies spending months of work to be PCI DSS compliant

Post-AI: send your credit card details as a picture in a chat

How....

We truly live in the dumbest timeline

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago

I thought for sure this has to be a jest, no, it's real. Elon The Musky Husky actually smells like this.

The comments are always fascinating to read. Especially ones from 16+ years ago.

I seem to recall that email scams were not super polished because their targets were people who didn't question too much. I see that this has been adopted more widely.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 63 points 1 day ago (3 children)

So... Apparently this is real

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

…why not just tell grok the item you are looking for and have it send you a link to the best deal???

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

We've been trading literally everything in our lives for the sake of convenience for...a while... Wouldn't be susprised if some AI brain actually thinks doing this saves you time and is worth it...

Also AI is TERRIBLE at finding deals. TERRIBLE. I tried several times with very different products.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

It saves you loads of time! Especially if your goal is bankruptcy and permanent servitude.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 day ago

Fuck, I can't even tell anymore

[–] burido@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

real or not, it's just waiting to happen

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Man, the internet has really just become a propaganda and advertising machine for a handful of billionaires, hasn't it? There's no fixing this, is there?

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Drones destroying data centers seems to help.

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

I hope it keeps going. Fuck all these propaganda tools.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If there is a christian god out there, now would be the appropriate time for a great flood to do a full reboot. You there god? At least give us a sign?

[–] LavaPlanet@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why does everyone have to die, just because a handful of evil villains have taken over, tho. Surely an omnipresent god can do direct targeting... some well aimed lighting bolts should do it, yeah? Maybe the pre Christian version of the Christian god, Odin will be more helpful to call on?

Imagine being so rich that you don't even see a problem with that

As if the AI won't just buy from whichever company has paid the biggest bribe to Elon for this.

[–] Dultas@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Also good luck disputing a purchase, that seems like a minefield.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 48 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Even if this purchasing model worked, it doesn't make sense. You're telling me that these companies earn commission on these sales and will try to find the best deal ensuring they get the lowest commission possible on the sale? Yeah right.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They will start by skimming the referral dollars and depending on volume but eventually will start taking money to promote specific things.

We are not really at that level will LLM providers but we will be soon. Soon enough Google will more aggressively insert ads into Gemini and not long after that they will start taking money to have the LLMs casually add or avoid specific topics.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

The way that they're coming under the microscope to earn profit it's going to happen very soon.

AI derangement syndrome, terminal.

[–] Z745812939054@lemmy.zip 27 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

twirtter users will do it, too

edit: leaving the typo because fuck twirtter, and fuck twirtter users

[–] GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Please tell me that someone at least asked Elon to show them how it's done because they were a little confused. I can't see him not being able to show his superiority by doing it when they couldn't.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

He actually did it and accidentally doxxed himself by posting his address

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago
[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Why is that piece of shit not in prison?

[–] bertlewirth@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Rich people don’t go to jail.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

warning from grok bot: never share personal information with happy fun ball.

[–] artifex@piefed.zip 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

One can only imagine Visa and American Express sent representatives over to Elon with a strongly worded letter and maybe a crowbar.
