Big Cheese doesn't want you to know this, but there's a trick where you can still eat some cheeses while lactose intolerant, even without pills.

Some cheeses have very low lactose, even though they don't advertise it. My brother is lactose intolerant but eats plenty of Emmental and he's fine.

The trick is to look at the sugar content when you buy cheese. If it's zero or close to it then you are much more likely to be fine after eating it. That's because lactose is a sugar!

Of course, not every country or every place selling cheese marks it this way, but it's a neat trick when you can use it.

[–] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 2 points 21 hours ago

With how many people out there are lactose intolerant, you'd think they'd have found a way to make cheese substitutes actually taste like cheese, or at least good, by now. Been trying to cut cheese from my diet recently for other reasons and have yet to find fake cheese that doesn't have a terrible taste and worse texture.

Sometimes it's worth the pain.

You know that you can buy lactase enzyme to be able to digest lactose?

[–] Sibshops@feddit.cl 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I tried that but it stopped working for me.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Buy enzymes that help you break down the enzyme tablets better.

That just sounds like an endless enzyme arms war leading to eventually not being able to consume anything BUT enzyme supplements.

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

me too and I'm scared it's allergies :(

[–] Sibshops@feddit.cl 3 points 1 day ago

Thankfully manufacturers label when something contains dairy.

[–] miked@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

They don't work all that well for me.

I can't eat a whole slice of cheesecake without quite a bit of suffering, but I can eat half a slice and save the other half to eat the next day, and be fine.

Lactose intolerance will not take cheesecake away from me.

I’m allergic to milk, so similar thing, but:

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

At least you figured out what causes your issue. I still haven’t figured out mine. I pretty much eat the same thing and I’m mostly good but sometimes I’m not.

[–] LePoisson@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

This is anecdotal of course and TMI but honestly same with my IBS-D. I tried keeping a food journal for a couple months - didn't matter what I did or didn't eat no through line stuck out.

Seems my main trigger is anxiety and stress which sucks because there isn't too much to be done about that at times.

Cutting down on coffee helped me some but still enjoy a cup a day or maybe a couple cups - same with caffeine in general - slamming a couple energy drinks paired with a coffee or two - recipe for poop city (probably goes for most folks though).

Anyways you're not alone in your whole, "I have some weird stuff going on with my GI tract and it doesn't seem to line up with any dietary restrictions". As always, a chat with a doc is not a bad idea, you might be able to find some relief.

Best of luck on your journey.

Might be histamine intolerance. Try eating fresher food for a few weeks to check

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's not just about freshness, though. Some foods simply contain or release more histamine than others (red wine, shellfish, fermented foods, etc).

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago

I swear histamine is like the most confusing shit to understand if it's a problem for you. I had to make a spreadsheet

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I mean, they say their diet is unchanging. It's already a controlled variable as a result.

This message brought to you by Big Gastroenterology

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

For real, I don’t mean to scare anyone but that could be a sign of colorectal cancer. Better safe than sorry.

Lactaid 🤤 The macros go crazy

This is the cow taking its revenge for all the rape

cow rape
After a cow gives birth, it only keeps producing milk if it's continuously milked. But this is bad for the cow, so most dairy farms give each cow 2 months off per year. To make sure the cow resumes milk production after the break, they have the cow give birth at the end of that 2 month period. This involves taking a big syringe full of bull semes, pushing it up a cow's vagina, and the farmer squirting his sticky load into her. Needless to say, this practice requires states to make an exception in their bestiality laws.

[–] HertzDentalBar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yea, but the rape makes the milk taste better.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wish I got the reference here, I don't watch content that casts a shadow.

[–] itsjustachairmary@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I always say that for me, consuming dairy is a sin, and its punishment is severe and instant.

Edit; I fear no gods though. Only my guts.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago

My friend showing up to my cheesesteak party without first informing me of his lactose intolerance.

[–] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

My problem is I rarely drink milk but when I do I instantly chug half a liter and gastric ragnarok ensues.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (12 children)

So just stop? Especially for the poor exploited cows.

[–] DaGreenGobbo@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

Year, I eat plant based ice cream, yoghurt, custard, milk. Might be a little more expensive but man, the raspberry vegan ice cream is great. At least give a few things a try, right? Plant based products are not all the same.

This is me this morning after my wife made mashed potato for dinner. Ive had barely any carbs in months and then this morning it was like a solid log coming out requiring a midway flush so the work toilet wouldnt clog, then followed by soft post-shit clenching to tighten my anus back up

[–] Riverview_Legal@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Sounds like you needed a poop knife.

[–] candyman337@piefed.ca 2 points 1 day ago

If you triple commit for two weeks your body will adjust and start to digest lactose.

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 3 points 1 day ago

Or you will die of dehydration. Either way it won't bother you any more.

[–] crystalmathadept@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They make medicine you can take before you eat dairy, ya dingus!

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Which requires a level of planning I've never possessed when it comes to meals.
