Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community -- if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Glad my Nixie Pixies are getting some representation!

Until reading the comments, I thought this was skirt length.

    [–] Bamboodpanda@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I've only ever used Mint. I'm also vanilla as fuck. I'm gonna assume this meme tracks.

    [–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

    CachyOS you just wax

    [–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Mint is better than Ubuntu. Ubuntu should be at bottom. Actually, if Oligarchy ever gets on the list, it should be on a skunk scale and well put it beside the butthole, and Ubuntu can go on tue bottom.

    [–] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

    Omarchy is toe shoes.

    [–] Quittenbrot@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

Looking at the meme, I knew exactly I wouldn't need to scroll far for a comment complaining about this. :D

    [–] ZMoney@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Which one is scarier? I tried Ubuntu 2 years ago and got scared, working up the courage to try again.

Gentoo is a pair of knitting needles and yarn.

    Isn't that just wearing pantyhose?

    [–] n7gifmdn@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 days ago (2 children)

That means you are too old to wear stockings

    Thigh high compression socks

    [–] dasrael@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

    owch....dont be like that.

    [–] ieightpi@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

As a mint user I guess I'm lucky I'm into Victorian women.

    [–] OpenStars@discuss.online 9 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Mint users just be wearing... regular socks?

I lost it when my power went out and my chest freezer thawed...

    [–] OpenStars@discuss.online 1 points 1 day ago

I have no idea what you are talking about it, but I am loving it regardless, box of feet! :-P

    [–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Meanwhile Linux from Scratch is just no-show socks

    [–] diemartin@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 days ago

LFS is a ball of yarn and two needles. Knit your own goddamn A-length socks like a real man

    [–] OpenStars@discuss.online 2 points 2 days ago

And I can't decide if Mac OSX is flip-flops or crocs... (I mean, it is fully POSIX compliant, or at least was in the past...)

    [–] eatham@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago

That's Ubuntu, mint is some sort of mini sock

    [–] RustyNova@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Went from F to D and back to F... then straight to A!

I did use Debian for servers, but it's not a daily driver so doesn't count

I do like seeing NixOS as the terminally unix distro. 100% deserved. Arch doesn't even compare to us

    [–] nerfarenablast@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Where is Slackware in this picture? :(

    [–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Gotta knit your own socks bro

    [–] ekZepp@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

    Short socks linux mint

    [–] Uri@infosec.pub 3 points 2 days ago

I thought it was sock size based on distro

    [–] warmaster@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

    So, is Bazzite barefeet?

    [–] tal@lemmy.today 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I feel like Ubuntu really deserves to get orange, as they use it all over their branding.

As for yellow...hmm. is Yellow Dog Linux still around?

    searches

    Nope. Ended in 2012.

    goes looking

    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:SVG_logos_of_Linux_distributions

Nothing with an especially yellow logo.

I guess that's why Ubuntu got yellow.

    [–] Malix@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago

I get that it's memes and all that, but are there a lot of programmer/linux-socks wearing folk? I honestly have no idea.

Also, considering how alive the meme is, it's kinda weird that eg. arch's support-store only sells like stickers and shirts, not a single sock :D

    [–] xxxb@feddit.org 2 points 2 days ago

Gentoonis even higher and LFS is at the top?

    Debian btw

I use both Fedora and Debian. I feel like mid kneecap is a weird height for a sock.

    [–] dasrael@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

what about stage 1 gentoo??? hrm??

    [–] dfyx@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Compression stockings. Do young people even remember that Gentoo exists?

    [–] dasrael@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

What can I say, some of us just like good music. And apparently medical grade socks.

For a certain definition of young

    [–] Malix@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

you're beyond socks at that point, you exclusively wear body stockings

    [–] dasrael@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

    Full on Spanx huh.

    [–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm at B maybe A if the Netherlands releases that nixos distro

    [–] foo@feddit.uk 3 points 2 days ago
    [–] dismay3915@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

    Guix gang represent

    [–] dragnucs@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

    Does NixOs sell socks?

    [–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

    C for work, D for private. ;)

    [–] AppleMango@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

    What about LFS though
