Anything that touch and disturb upon public way of life, their basic rights and ultimately their home is deserved all of detest and spite.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Conservative rural voters don't detest datacenters, they detest density, traffic, noise, etc. they assume datacenters will bring. This same "not in my backyard"-ism defeats other things that would be environmentally good, but sometimes folksy ignorance happens by chance to do the right thing.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Polls regarding voting intent have become incredibly unreliable over the last decade.

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

Especially when there is a fascist government in charge that wants to murder all opposition. Like, hell no am I going to tell a random phone number how I’m going to vote.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Almost like the reporting on it is intentionally misleading. Really odd.

[–] LemmySuxNow@reddthat.com 11 points 1 day ago (5 children)

It's too bad that Democrats are also pro data center.

[–] Yuccagnocchiyaki@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes. But it is important to note that ACTUAL Democrats and left wing candidates in local elections are not the same as the corporate neoliberals

[–] LemmySuxNow@reddthat.com 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

How in the ever loving fuck do you figure that? Democrats are a neoliberal party from the top down. The only places they allow leftists to actually run are places they'd win as a third party anyway. Democrats exist to stop the left just as much as Republicans.

[–] Yuccagnocchiyaki@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Uh, no they aren't because they have democratic socialists and social Democrats? What do you mean?

You think Bernie, AOC, Tallarico, Ilhan Omar, etc are all neoliberals?

Please don't, we already have to fight all of these blue magas without takes like this.

I know that the corporate Democrats (neoliberals) are funding maga against the left. That's my issue with them. But the party does have good people in it although they are not in control at all right now

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Yes, Talarico is a neoliberal. He literally just reversed his stance on trans athletes. https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/james-talarico-walks-back-stance-145115175.html

[–] testfactor@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Is your definition of neoliberal "anyone who doesn't agree with me on 100% of issues?"

If not, can you give examples of issues that someone could disagree with you on which would not get them branded as a "neoliberal"?

[–] Yuccagnocchiyaki@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

Yes. That's what I was referring to. They seem to be reasonable neoliberals that are not pushing away the left and actively attack MAGA. They should get kudos for that.

*Note that it sounds like his decision on the trans athlete thing was what I was praising but I'm talking about his focus on the working class and holding maga feet to the fire

[–] LemmySuxNow@reddthat.com 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

reasonable neoliberals

I just....... What.....

[–] Yuccagnocchiyaki@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

You don't agree that Ossof and Tallarico are reasonable? There are some over there that are attempting to read the room. Even Obama endorsed Al-Sayad.

You can see the hate I get for pointing out the problems with the Dems but I will still give credit where it is due. But the party leadership and committees are completely captured

I'll believe it when Trump is hanging from a lamppost. Until then, these headlines are disinformation and should be disregarded.

[–] TransNeko@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

that poor lamppost... what did it do to you for you to punish it that badly?

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

i know. we’ll never get the stink out

[–] OctopusNemeses@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's a travel Youtuber I used to watch who goes around to places in the US to "just ask questions" to the locals. (read: looks for conservative opinions)

He has a couple of videos where he goes to natural disaster affected areas. The locals said in the Trump years the government provided more support than the Biden administration. I'm finding that kind of hard to believe considering the news stories seem to say the opposite.

Polls might go one way or the other on certain issues, but the GOP has done a good job of psychologically priming their base to reflexively default voting for them in the end.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

alot of these travel influencers, target democratic cities mostly and always look for the worst parts of it, to make a gotcha" dem cities are trashy hellholes". they never go to red states, or rural areas to do this. i think one of them is tyler, hes a conservative "travel" influencer that goes to blue cities , the shadiest parts, theres at least another one too.

[–] Kurtismayfield@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago

Never going to happen.

Watching all the farmers on TikTok blame "Washington " for their current trade woes have taught me that they will not do one thing to change their political "views". They will never vote for the market liberals.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It is seriousely beyond me that for so many people it first has to hurt them before they react. Instead of thinking long term based and not short term emotional and egotistical

[–] Stolas@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

I've witnessed so much of it at this point that I've come to accept it.

It still hurts to watch though. Nothing you do will convince them until they hurt just like the rest of us. Even if you tell them that it will hurt them eventually, even if you beg and plead for their own safety, until they feel that pain they won't care.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's not the data centers that people hate, it's the total, absolute lack of care of human well being that can only come from conservative leadership implementing said data center, the software, the laws, the AI, the jobs, the taxes, the society, etc.

Oh wait, this isn't actually about datacenters at all, it's because Republicans are fucking awful human beings and awful at everything, and are ruining everything.

Nothing will push them to vote Dem.

They may vote for an independent candidate or not vote at all, but they will not vote Dem, regardless of how many Dem policies align with their own.

[–] LemmySuxNow@reddthat.com 1 points 21 hours ago

No they will. Flipping between D and R is part of the strategy to keep us trapped

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 46 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That defeatism is exactly what the fascists want.

[–] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Is it really defeatism, though? Simply not voting at all could turn tides. And it's not like Republicans haven't proven them right again and again and again and again. Republicans are conditioned HARD to never, ever consider voting for a Democrat.

Some of them actually will. Not everyone who dumbly voted for Trump is a hardcore magat, it just looks that way on social media

I live in maga central and I do know people who've changed over to voting for Dems.

There's really no need for this level of cynicism. I understand why you feel this way but it doesn't help anything.

A shitton of voters will NEVER vote for a Dem, no matter how bad things get. For some it's gun rights, for others it's being anti-abortion or anti-LGBT, and most believe liberals are EXTREMISTS because Fox News pounds that into their brain 24/7.

[–] GolfFoxtrotLima@sh.itjust.works 2 points 17 hours ago

Yeah, but they can become disillusioned and not vote for the republicans either

[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 14 points 2 days ago

With how close our elections typically are, you don’t need to convince every single one, just picking away at the fringes should be enough

Strong guarantee that the data center issue is not enough to get conservatives voting for any democrat no matter how much they talk about jesus or whatever

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

are they, or they just only vote on this single issue, and then they go right back to voting republican.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

they got their abortion 'win', guns aren't being 'taken away', dipshit is doing a bang-up job hating the 'correct people' and shredding social services, and the climate change hoax is sufficiently contained (it is not, but these are science deniers)....

so i guess there's no single issue left that's calling them... so 'data centers' it is.

Yea.. my super maga dad is all pissed off about data centers. Don't think it would get him to vote dem, but it did sway his primary vote towards an anti DC candidate.

Decades of leftist organizing couldn't do it. One server farm drinking the town aquifer to make AI slop did it in a year.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 days ago

As they say in labor organizing, the boss is the best organizer

Turns out »bringing the future to rural America« is a tougher sell when the future arrives as a windowless warehouse guzzling water and electricity while your bills climb. Republicans get the backlash, Democrats get the votes, and both parties get checks from the same tech lobby. Truly bipartisan innovation.

[–] Mastengwe@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

More copium for the masses. No one is leaving MAGA. Anyone smart enough to do this would have done it back when he was found to have raped children. The rest are bought and paid for simps.
