"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

MODERATORS

AI is, frankly, less a superintelligence than a form of super-stupidity with enormous power and no capacity for remorse or learning from previous harm caused.

Some of us think that AI should probably go down in history as the biggest boondoggle ever, the greatest scam avoided, the greatest corporate disaster missed and/or the greatest social crisis averted. We don’t have to go through every door that opens.

You opened doors to make money for yourselves. You even joke about killing humanity.

We may see people starving in the streets some day while an oligarch throws a $500 million wedding.

May? Have.

The main thing they should know is that there are only a few of them and billions of the rest of us.

They already know.

It's a grift. It has always been a grift.

Milk the investor, milk the users, do an IPO.

Then leave someone else holding the debt and stock,

It's the dumbfuck bankers, investors, pension funds and markets that are really scary.

Of course they learned so many hard lessons when they ~~lost so much~~ got bailed out in 2008, and never faced any regulation.

Also fucked off with any governments pumping the bubble - I know pro-cyclical fiscal policy is now all the rage, but seriously these fuckers . . .

Let's see, there spending 10 trillion between now and 2032... They need it to earn 3 trillion a year to cover their loans.... And there's only 8 billion people on the planet?

I'm not a maths guy, but I don't think that adds up.

"...We may see people starving in the streets some day while an oligarch throws a $500 million wedding."

Already happening in sooo many parts of the world. Was before, but is worse now. Doesn't invalidate the article at all, just felt a need to point it out.
