Some people are just dense
Most people are self-centered (which makes sense... to a point), & often don't much care about things that don't directly affect them - it's just the degree to which they are like this that varies. Now you know just how bad your "mate" is in that regard.
Not understanding a joke and not being sure about only fans are not traits i would describe as self centered. Sex jokes about historical figures may be funny if your are into that humour but if you have never encountered it yet they are quite strange.

Not talking about the joke. I'm talking about not knowing about one of the most well-known names in equal rights history - especially when it happened (and therefore her likely current status). Presumably because they don't care since it doesn't currently affect them personally.

I don't disagree. I'm referring to not knowing about Rosa Parks - over of the most well-known figures in the history of equal rights, and it sounds like they've barely heard of her, let alone when. Can't be bothered learning about things that don't currently directly affect their life, apparently.
