As an amateur artist, may I suggest a few improvements

Parents commissioned the grandad? Sounds like they were trying to raise his self-esteem.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

It’s still very sweet though.

Looks like grandad was painting his 18th century peasant ghost girl from his nightmares instead. Easy mistake to make honestly

Victorian-era Realism was much better than this

This is just a shitty painting

[–] LincolnsDogFido@lemmy.zip 7 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, everyone is shitting on the painting, but we have no reference photo of OP at 16. We only have what little you can see in the profile photo.

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

It's the same picture, I'm confused.

[–] Jojowski@sopuli.xyz 6 points 14 hours ago

My dad had paid someone to draw my portrait from a graduation photo. The drawing is horribly bad. It's also quite big and hanging on a wall at the center of the house so there's no chance one could avoid looking at it.

These are two different pictures, though. Does nobody else see this?

Looks like slop to me.

Hard to tell but it looks like the same picture with pretty intense artifacting on the left to me.

[–] Magnum@infosec.pub 1 points 3 hours ago

Its the same picture but the other one is further away resulting in different artifacting.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

Emmmm, flour chicken.

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 7 points 16 hours ago

The painting looks objectively shitty, and yet, somehow you can’t help but feel that the eyes are following you

[–] Deconceptualist@leminal.space 4 points 15 hours ago

Disappointed if her username hasn't changed to Flour.

Gramps did his best, it seems, and I'm all but certain he desperately wanted his grandkid to see his heartfelt try at it —likely knowing he'd fail in accurately representing their very soul with his sub-par but earnest spattering on canvas.

16, you say? That tracks.

Hot take: it's actually OP that fucked this self-portrait up, and they're so cowardly that they threw the poor bastard under the bus, instead. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Profile picture is missing an eyeball

[–] Naho_Zako@piefed.zip 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

She had to take one out after looking at this portrait.

WARNING: Do not look at ~~LASER~~ portrait with remaining eye

[–] cruseo@piefed.world 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

They should’ve commissioned an artist

[–] starik@lemmy.today 3 points 15 hours ago

They should have sent a poet
