Perfectly normal behavior for a politician who lost the election. Also perfectly normal is to tell your supporters the election was stolen and incite them to invade government offices.

Like father, like son. Unsurprisingly, he's also been granted a no-questions-asked visa here in the US.

Completely expected based on his family’s corruption racket. He ran for President in hopes of undermining the investigations against him and his family. Now he’s going to the US to pretend that the election he lost was illegitimate .

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 38 points 1 week ago

With the support of the US Government too.

[–] Rudee@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Birds of a feather

And what are the odds Trump does a little "intercessional democracy" like with Venezuela?

[–] XiJinpingStanAccount@lemmy.ml 25 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Zero. The US literally does not have the military capability to successfully invade Brazil. Brazil is no Superpower, but it is perfectly capable of defending itself, and it would turn into a total quagmire for the US. With its stockpiles depleted from the Iran war already it would be extremely ill advised for them to attack Brazil. Brazil has 375,000 Active Duty personnel, and spent $23.9 billion on its military in 2025.

They also have Gripen fighters. The Gripen is perhaps the best fighter in the world for the type of war this would be. It outflies an F-35, can land and take off from basically anything, is low maintenence compared to most modern fighters, and it's not an exaggeration to say the F-35 would get its ass handed to it. Iran has shown it's stealth is not good enough, and a Gripen is so much faster than an F-35 that once it sees the thing the F-35 is basically fucked.

As for a Navy they're majorly focused on coastal, and river capabilities. Which when defending a country like Brazil is great.

That's not even taking into account the diplomatic fallout globally. Brazil is not Venezuela. If the United States was to invade Brazil it would be the most significant geopolitical event since the end of WW2. Brazil is the 10th largest economy on the planet. China, Russia, the EU. All of them would feel the impact. And they'd all be furious.

Then there's Mexico. If the US Invades Brazil Mexico knows it is on the list too. So it would not just sit idle. It would likely launch an economic warfare campaign against the US. And it's the US's biggest trading partner so that would be devestating. This would hurt Mexico too, but it would be existential for them at that point.

If you think Vietnam was bad invading Brazil would be that x20.

You forget, "stupid," "incompetent," "quagmire" and "basically fucked" are 100% on-brand for this administration.

He gets a luxury mansion to live in instead

[–] dRLY@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 week ago

Looks pretty luxurious. Air vent AND a fan? Can't even get one of those in so many nice hotel bathrooms. Not to mention the privacy of both the entrance and walls that aren't paper thin. Not going to be kept up if a neighbor in the next hole over decides to throw a rager at all hours. lol

But you are probably correct (sadly).

in the future, florida is going to turn into the last vestige of capitalist-colonial latin-america -- it'll turn into a theme park as much as disney world is.

Flavio Bolsonaro, a Brazilian senator and former presidential candidate, has reportedly left Brazil for the United States, according to reports published by international media outlets. The news emerged Tuesday, one day after the conservative politician claimed that Brazilian authorities had ordered him to surrender both his regular and diplomatic passports and barred him from leaving the country. So far, the circumstances surrounding his alleged departure have not been conclusively established.

[–] dessalines@lemmy.ml 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's probably gonna settle in Miami with the rest of his kind, like the terrorist bomber Luis Posadas Carriles, who bombed a Cuban airliner killing 73 civilians, who the US gave protection and sanctuary to in Miami, until he died there peacefully.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Machado is headed to Venezuela. 😒

[–] dessalines@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Not good. Its hard for VZ to make moves against her when the US is holding their head of state hostage.

Wow that didn't take long.

I'm not super on top of Brazilian politics. How did this go down? Was it something like:

FB: The election was rigged! I demand a court hearing!

LdS: Oh, you'll get your court date all right.

FB: 😳 Ok…uh…I'll be on the next plane up there…

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

pretty much. he was already being investigated for his crimes, and there was talk he went to be a senator precisely for the parliamentary immunity.

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Parliamentary immunity is such a bullshit concept in the same vein as "qualified immunity" for the pigs.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 week ago

They ordered him to surrender his passports, he refused to comply and left the country instead.

That says argentinian air force, while the article states the airline is baires fly, a private airline.

[–] midi@reddthat.com 11 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Apparently it's FAG594, looks like was trying to cross over Chile but now is going back?

[–] midi@reddthat.com 9 points 1 week ago

Looks like he changed plane, took N5LL which is not available for public tracking per request from the owner/operator.

Apparently he already landed in Miami, succesfully escaped.

If there is a 2nd American Civil War, we can do Lula a favor and handle this piece of fascist trash.

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

There won't be. For there to be a civil war there has to be a legitimate resistance movement that poses an actual threat to the state, and the US left is so dysfunctional and disorganized thanks to decades of political manipulation by the state that it knows there is no real threat to their power. It's why they are pulling the mask off. They are comfortable in knowing they will face no legitimate resistance.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 week ago (12 children)

I think you're a bit too doomer. The rise of socialism and communism among the younger generations in the US is being directly contested by NSPM-7 and other COINTELPRO style attacks. The capitalist state and class recognize that there is a very real threat to their power that looms, and so they are trying to strangle the baby as it is beginning to walk.

The fall of the Iron Curtain came suddenly, without warning or any significant resistance. It just happened, and everybody jumped on it.

[–] midi@reddthat.com 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Stay tuned because tomorrow a Crybaby will give a press conference, dunno directly from a Whitehouse??? whining like a real fascist, saying that elections were rigged and that his Pappy was counting on him to be set free from a terrible cacodemonic unearthly house arrest.

He might pass out as well, so stay tuned for that too.

He also promised to bring his defective brother back, and because of diabolical plot of students from Brazil and popular mobilization, everything went to hell, and in unlikly turn of events he joined his brother instead.

Thank God that Senior Fascist made 4 of them, 2 are already in US, and 1,5 still in Brazil. There is still some room for another coup.

If it was some poor Mexican crossing a border, he'd be greeted by ICE-kickout, but this nobleman will probably get some real lolly today, iykwim.

And btw, Lula turned 81 today! What a happy coincidence. Happy Birthday Lula.

[–] Cricket@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He didn't turn in his passport. They ordered him to, but he fled instead.

[–] trilobite@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Flavio Bolsonaro faces multiple serious allegations, including embezzlement via a fake salary scheme, money laundering through undeclared assets and shell companies, and potential ties to organized crime. Prosecutors have presented financial records, witness testimonies, and property records as evidence, but no final convictions have been secured. Given the documented financial irregularities and ongoing court restrictions (passport revocation), the likelihood of guilt is moderate to high (60–70%), though definitive proof remains under judicial review.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I feel like that was something you were supposed to prevent.
