Moderator Guidelines

  • Donโ€™t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Donโ€™t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but donโ€™t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Donโ€™t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we donโ€™t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they havenโ€™t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like โ€œthis statement can be considered transphobicโ€ rather than โ€œyou are being transphobicโ€.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You donโ€™t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

the moon is bouba and the sun is kiki. this establishment doesn't care what's in your pants but will ABSOLUTELY NOT tolerate kiki vibes in the bouba bathroom

In a situation like this I defer to sound tactical advice: Hesitation and delay kill more troops than bad planning, treachery and bad luck.

Hesitation and delay kill more troops than bad planning, treachery and bad luck.

I feel like there have been enough devastating losses from bad weather, preventable disease, and poor supply chains to make this definitively not true. Getting defeated by Typhoons and invading Russia in the winter are notable examples. I feel like this only applies once you've already committed to a plan.

That's mostly strategic mistakes i think

Better choose right, there's a genital inspection from an unlicensed and heavily armed bigot on the other side of the wrong door

[โ€“] SpaghettiMaster@feddit.uk 3 points 5 days ago

Sounds like an inspector is about to get a punch in the face because I gotta take a shit.

My friend Jeylan, a soulsborne fan: "LEFT."

The proper choice is to leave the building entirely.

my siblings and I ended up getting some space motifs from my mom. My sister is her sun, my brother is her moon and I'm her stars. As a woman than makes me a sun child

[โ€“] poweruser@lemmy.sdf.org 222 points 1 week ago (8 children)

That moon is impossible! Either there are stars in front of it or most of the moon is missing or transparent. I'm starting to doubt the astronomical validity of this decal

[โ€“] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 83 points 1 week ago (7 children)

That's no moon. It's a space station.

[โ€“] SuDmit@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago

Another guess: those are starlink satellites pollution the sky

It's the spaceport from Treasure Planet

[โ€“] snoons@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago

Nuclear war on moon's surface. Gotta be.

The dark spot isn't the right shape to be the terminator, it must be dust clouds or something from the bombs.

The shape of the shadow also implies a very different ratio of sizes & distances than the earth/moon system has.

might be a cheeky way to say gender neutral but

[โ€“] Unleaded8163@fedia.io 44 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Plot twist: they're still gendered, but the men's room is decorated in an exaggeratedly, stereotypical, hyper-feminine decor, a la Barbie. It has amenities that were traditionally exclusive to women's bathrooms like a feminine hygeine product dispenser, baby changing table, etc. that are visible from the entrance. It's also the only one with urinals, but they're placed such that they can't be seen from the entrance.

The other restroom is just a nice, normal restroom except one of the women on staff is posted there and whose only job is to shriek with surprise if a man opens the door.

[โ€“] ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com 21 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Call me crazy, but I don't think it should be up to interpretation.

[โ€“] untorquer@quokk.au 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Maybe I'm assuming too much but you should probably be using the adult restrooms.

They're both for women. In one case the women are worshipping the sun, in the other case they're worshipping the moon.

Men go outside in the alleyway.

Don't even need to know about gods, lots of languages have gendered nouns. In Spanish the sun is masculine and the moon feminine. But it's the opposite in german.

[โ€“] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

The sun is neuter in slovenian and the moon can be either masculine or feminine depending on the word you use

The only de-gendered bathroom signs I think works are "Toilets" and "Toilets and Urinals".

If we're removing the aspect of gender then that's the only real difference between bathrooms.

[โ€“] vithigar@lemmy.ca 10 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

I was actually thinking about this the other day and concluded that the best way to label bathrooms is just a complete facility inventory to tell people what's in there. Just put stylised pictures of two toilets, a urinal, two sinks, and a changing table on the door or whatever.

[โ€“] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

As a parent, labeling where they've bothered to put changing tables would save so much trouble! I've had to barge into the women's room to change a diaper way too many times because who could imagine a dad changing a diaper?

Saw one at the kid's museum the other day where the changing table in the men's room had a little plaque noting it was sponsored by a local vasectomy clinic. Well played.

lo and behold, that's basically how it works here.

Accessible toilet with a changing table

What's the point of having different restrooms depending on the time of day? Wouldn't be better to allow both to be used all the time?

[โ€“] Eiri@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 week ago

Extravert bathroom on the left, introvert bathroom on the right.

[โ€“] jumperalex@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Easy ...

Moon ... moon blood ... menstrual cycle ... women ... also werewolves

Sun ... son ... men ... but no vampires.

[โ€“] yetAnotherUser@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago (4 children)

A Pokรฉmon fan would say: "Oh! It depends on what version of Sun and Moon you bought! Wait, but I bought both versions... Which one should I pick?"
