AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Reuters reports that around 100 people made it into the construction site, with some scaling a crane to place a “fuck AI” banner. Protesters also unfurled a “Microsoft powers genocide” banner on the construction site, and chanted “Microsoft has got to go” and “free Palestine.”

Microsoft is just one player in this battle. Data collection is power now. If you know everything about a person including all their dark secrets then you can control the course of humanity. Elon Musk wants to take over all telecoms and store data on every person in the United States and beyond. His software is embedded within the military and there is no understanding of how far this data collection goes.

He used brain washed young people which practically amounted to kids to get access to the records of every American and we have no idea what happened there. No investigation or anything to find out what happened. Then, the insinuations about knowing how the 2024 election would turn out. No investigation into what systems he had in place that allowed him to make the claim that he already knew the results.

His data center holds a lot of secrets.

He's going to push hard into cellular and he could buy Comcast if he wanted. If you connect the dots of what he's doing, it is about a vertically integrated monopoly of all communication and data.

The worst part is that he hates anyone who is against him and lacks any empathy towards those who think opposite of him. Sometimes I wonder if data centers put us in the crosshairs of dangerous weapons. Anyone out of the algorithm can be targeted.

The very presence of them is threatening.

Funny how one of the commenters arguing for the benefit of data centres was so obviously composed by a chatbot.

i hope teams has an outage

YES, HAHAHAHA, YES! RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, BOYS!

[–] bountygiver@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 hours ago

many are getting their gaming PC tonight

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 20 points 17 hours ago

Stop building them and people won't break into them, problem solved.

So hey, guys...

I'm a huge fan of this protest, but climbing the boom of a crane without any safety gear is extremely fucking stupid.

Get a safety harness before you do this. They're not that expensive. Hell, steal one from the site. But this gets people killed, like yourself.

[–] nx2991@lemmy.today 3 points 8 hours ago

They may be protesting but they are still following European approved health and safety guidelines.🤣

Can't fight for the cause if you're dead.

Be brave, but be smart about it.

[–] childOfMagenta@jlai.lu 19 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Looking at the picture I think they may be harnessed.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 11 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

they are. clearly visible in the full-sized image.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 hours ago

I think those are backpacks. I don't see anything tight around their hips, the coveralls they wear are all very wide.

[–] arsCynic@piefed.social 5 points 17 hours ago

Climbing a crane isn't free soloing El Cap.

why not just burn it down or sabotage whatever's been built?

[–] sockinacock@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Honestly the best thing you could do is probably ruin the cranes, they're easy to fuck up permanently (and relatively 'safely'), they're super expensive and parts/replacements are generally years out, and once it starts happening no insurance agency will cover data center jobs.

probably same penalties as a banner drop.

As a former MSFT V Dash, yes, correct, very good.

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago

This is fucking amazing.

[–] Seimhe@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago

This is basic human decency. Well done.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 17 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

How sweet will it be with all these idiot companies try to replace us with their shitty llm implementations, which will then have no connection because data centers were destroyed. I yearn for that day.

[–] oscarmeyer82@lemmy.world 13 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

It's just such a stupid fucking plan too. Like they're absolutely massive and fragile structures that are going to be ridiculously simple for individuals or groups to vandalize or destroy them. Even if they heavily fortify and gaurd the data centers themselves there are so many people opposed and so many, many attack vectors to nullify them that they'd have to boil the frog slowly to actually succeed with their dumbass plan.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 12 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Not to mention millions of businesses pointing at them to burn an assload of power with every chatbot request. Massive massive waste.

Its fucking stupid. We have computer and computer programs for this. We are going backwards. But people are stupid and dont understand the abstract nature of any of that, so they just believe what billionaire owned media tells them which is " get our ai app now or youll be left behind!!!!!!!"

[–] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Consider me left, I missed the train, didn't buy a ticket, never wanted the ticket, didn't want to know about the ticket.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah but we will be the old men yelling at clouds, just like the folks who scoffed when internet came into popularity ("why would I want that, I have a library and books for research. Why would you trust a random internet stranger ? This internet is ruining young peoples brains " etc. All stuff we are saying about ai now) Sadly we will die off and the young will only know slop.

[–] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

I know there is some truth to this, as progression is the nature of things, I do have shreds of hope for a more star trek future where they really lean into the positive aspects and eventually the spare collective cognitive ability will be the goal, not money. Wind power if nothing but aesthetic. Geothermal and desalination. Solar farms. I can envision that future. I will not see that future.

One of the toughest things for me to empathize is how there are so many who simply can not or will not allow themselves to be seed planters, rather than simply forest admirers. How are the blinders so effective to what could be they allow themselves to actively destroy the tiny blue dot.

Anyway, got a little off topic there. I dont think knowledge scrapers and LLMs are what people claim them to be yet, it's weird witnessing a bubble, it's been weird watching a cult of personality develop and begin desolving.

I do think we are collectively on a "Grapes of Wrath" precipice. Hopefully it is not humanity itself on the vine.

[–] oscarmeyer82@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago

I think lots of people do understand and many have their hearts in the right place but are being misled by all the billionaire owned media which is almost omnipresent. You and I are a minority freely communicating on an open platform.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

To any teenagers deciding on a career path: learn how to be the person that repairs fiber optic cables after they are cut. You are going to have looooooooooots of available work for a long time.
