Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

What's your opinion on crêpes?

[–] LordAmplifier@pawb.social 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What I like about waffles is that you can fill the little squares with chocolate, syrup, or anything else you like. That's their big advantage over pancakes, I think

[–] YourBestFriend@quokk.au 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They are more efficient and therefore better.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

They're more difficult to eat without making a mess for the undextrous and inattentive, though, which makes them LESS effective for some of us..

The most common misconception is that the waffle has little containers. That’s just its exterior form.

It’s absorbent and crunchy. 🦄

The waffle requires patience and perfect timing.

Waffles are tasty, but pancakes can be good too!

[–] jlow@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 19 hours ago

Cats and dogs, pancakes and waffles!

I hate whipped cream. The taste sickens me.

[–] YourBestFriend@quokk.au 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do you whip your own cream or is it from the can/jar

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 3 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

I do low sugar and add some vanilla or maple syrup depending on what it goes with

If you make your own you can tweak it exactly to your tastes

If your tastes are fully incompatible that’s okay too

Pancakes have a lower ceiling to how good they can be (not much lower but lower), and have a much higher floor. They are a pretty consistent food to make or order from a place. Waffles on the other hand are pretty much the reverse. If I don’t know how good you are at making waffles then I’ll take pancakes. If you are good at making pancakes then I’ll take waffles since they will probably be good too.

and have a much higher floor

This is true, if you're ordering pankcakes and actually getting pancakes. But far, far too many times, I have ordered pancakes and been given crepes. Which just...gross. No. One time, after a string of times ordering pancakes and being given crepes multiple times in a row at different places, I specifically asked ahead of time a clarifying question, and was given an answer that reassured me it was actually pancakes. Nope! Surprise fucking crepes.

i find waffles to be better in pretty much all cases tbh. pancakes tend to be dry even when made really well, and they dont absorb maple syrup nearly as well as waffles. i think its more the cooking method than the recipe which is why its been so consistent in my experience. im not really a big fan of belgian waffles because they tend to turn out too hard and crispy if you dont time it perfectly. i much prefer the shallower american style waffles, which are a great compromise between belgian style and pancakes. the shallower pockets are much more forgiving on cooking time and they come out softer and more moist than belgian waffles. but i acknowledge a lot of this is autistic sensory stuff combined with nostalgia 🙃

Can't wait to get a mouthful

[–] funkylevi@piefed.zip 1 points 13 hours ago

absolutely. french toast rocks but its not propaganda worthy

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pancakes are great, but waffles are just the best. And they're versatile - I've made my own recipe for cheesy waffles using queso dip from costco, and they're so good with a dollop of sour cream.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 21 hours ago

Tbf, you could and SHOULD do that kind of thing with European style pancakes/crêpes too 🤷🏻

[–] theedqueen@lemmy.world 0 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Give me waffles or pancakes I’m usually down for either. But French toast can gtfo

[–] SourDragon@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago
