While asparagus does grow single shoots like this, I suspect this picture is staged. I grow asparagus and you never get that many pop up at once and all grow the same exact height. They're also too spread out for a single plant, usually they will grow from a fairly central point per plant.

It grows super fast as well. Something like 6 inches a day. Second only to bamboo, apparently. (Source: my one brief flirtation with manual labour was picking asparagus in the Northern Territory)
