That was the plan all along he wants to starve the poor (and most of all the poor citizens and immigrants of color).

And most of them will just eat it up and blame the democrats for the govt shutdown

meanwhile, in the wealthiest country on the world...

The top 1% hold 1/3 of all the US wealth while the top 10% hold 2/3 of all wealth.

So 90% of the US population controls leas than 33% of all the nations wealth.

The country isn’t wealthy, it’s been plundered by a few greedy oligarchs.

i’m not understanding this at all. isn’t SNAP funded the year prior? isn’t the US fiscal year Jan-Dec? so.. huh? states should still have money for the remainder of the year no?

some states will use whatever excuse they can….
they probably already spent the snap funding on something else

We were still on FY24 because they never lassed a 2025 budget.

Government fiscal year is Nov-Oct. So they are running out if they needed any extra such as from unexpected amounts of people losing their jobs or getting shifts cut. Something that happens when a large number of consumers are deported or flee and when various federal agencies have cuts. Further tariffs and mass reductions in shipping, removal of various government grants, etc.

I've read that they apply the fiscal year, from Nov to Oct. But I am not sure, I am not an usanian.

Unless they’ve exhausted their budget already and were waiting for a loan to distribute additional funds. New SNAP recipients get paid right away, they don’t wait for the remainder of the fiscal year to pass.

It's a lot easier to procrastinate about politics when the kids are fed. Really ups the stakes of the blame game.

Yeah, seems like the bread part of the bread and circus game is going to be an issue. Not the smartest move by the fascists, but then again, noone ever claimed they were smart people.

on top of that work requirements start in December, so this is gonna be an oppurtunity for the government to cut record numbers off due to paperwork issues.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

it's almost like they planned it that way...

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 months ago

There have always been work requirements. They probably changed them to be harder though.
