It's the new game: AI, or late 00s overzealous image sharpening?
It’s definitely not entirely AI, those life sized decorations exist and are sold at hardware stores. It’s just definitely had some filter applied that has done some wonky stuff.
Could be modern AI enhancement filters making it a little bit of both.

at a hardware store this becomes a much more urgent problem.
If you're an adult you're pretty safe unless you get in his way trying to put his soul in a toddler's body. 🤷♂️
