America would do the same if China or Russia was making political conventions up there.

Nah, all foreign operatives are welcome to contribute to American politicians. And really - it's not even a joke. Between Citizen's United (which allows corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money influencing elections) and crypto (who do you think was buying Trump's coin?!), our politicians don't complain about interference - they cash in on it.

Absolutely.

She's not running scared. She's helping to create a new normal. When election season is in full swing, the oligarchs will proclaim 'oh, it's so dangerous, we can't even be in public. only ICE can save the elections.'

The narrative war has shifted, because "mass media" can now be targeted to a specific audience/person.

In days of old, the narrative needed consistency. It needed dignity. It needed to survive the scrutiny of swing voters as well as the hardcore base. But now, the narrative shifts from person to person. A conservative Republican voter might see articles about how Trump is cutting taxes for businesses, but they won't hear much about the very real concerns - corruption, pedophilia, mental health issues.

And since AI can generate article after article, there's never a lack of propaganda for people like this. They happily scroll their newsfeed, believing every lie.

Alas, I fear the US might be too far gone for ranked choice to have an effect.

The problem is quality of candidates. Since Citizen's United opened the door for unlimited corporate money in elections, literally 90% of candidates are on someone's payroll. "Grassroots" is a thing of the past. Mass media and name recognition are everything.

Ummm....how though?

Where are progressives on that scale? Oh, and do fascists, I definitely want to know how a fascist stacks up against a liberal!

Hail to the chief, who in triumph...

We let them run the country.

This is kind of an insane take.

Women have always been vulnerable. Women are easy targets because they are, on average, physically weaker than males.

Women get raped and sexually assaulted at rates far beyond men. 50% of women will suffer a sexual assault of some kind in their life. Just 3% of men report a sexual assault.

A person can be smart. "People" are not. Groupthink changes a person, especially when tribalism is involved. The masses are easily led by "us vs. them" narratives.

"It's not a war."

"The war will be over in a few days."

"Maybe...conscription?"

Either they have no idea what they are doing or they are just plain evil. There is no middle ground.

The MAGA idiots that voted for Trump still support Trump. My neighbor is overjoyed that we are at war. I've never been so disgusted by a boomer's behavior.

My other idiot boomer friend is not MAGA, but he is Republican. And he will continue to vote Republican, even though he hates Trump.

They never learn. It's always "well, next time it'll be different". And, in that respect, they are exactly like Democrats.
