Who were your fascists?

Too many older folks think even dumping manure on a state house is “too rude.” The vast majority won’t even agree to murder if they could get away with it.

I remember being so motivated after that disastrous meeting Trump had with Zelenskyy. Where Trump tried to extort him for minerals and broadcast it on Russian State TV.

I worked on the Mayday Movement. I really thought we could make something like Euromaidan. I thought it would be easier to general strike if we lived in an encampment.

It fell though. Not many people came. Then I focused on 50501 instead. I had to keep moving forward doing something.

It’s great for people not experienced in protest. The previous No Kings was the first protest my parents attended.

Oh I was wrong. I learned about this from Lincoln the movie. Turned out prolonging the war was added for dramatic effect. Thought it was true.

I believe we will make a new America after this! A beautiful one!

Just like when gun control was brought to California when the Black Panthers open carried.

I don’t understand your logic here. Yeah, a lot of new ideas are pushed forward by fringe or oppressed groups. Those fringe groups can grow in size and power to challenge, and thus change the institution itself.

MAGA was not institutional at first. They were fringe and weird. No one took them seriously. Look at where they are now.

Slavery was institutional at first. But then the Republicans, an institution, were created to counter slavery. Abraham Lincoln literally tricked American citizens into supporting the 13th Amendment, thinking it was necessary to stop the Civil War. In reality, Lincoln kept the Civil War going longer than necessary to pass the Amendment.

I feel torn about this.

America is the slavers but also the abolitionists.

America is the corrupt corporations but also the Battle of Blair mountain.

America is an imperial army but is also the anti-Vietnam War protesters.

In order to embrace more of the good of America, we need to learn more about the bad.

I used to think that Obama would just call us all up and have us storm the White House.

I have since learned, resisting fascism isn’t like a movie. It’s more like dealing with an ant infestation. It’s gross, it’s all in your food, and when you improve one area they’ve infested another. But eventually if you keep going at it, things improve and you do get your house back.
