There's still going to be an opportunity cost. You can build massive renewable sources, but powering a data center with it is a shit use compared to other things.

It's things like this that make people say Luigi is a saint. There are people just clearly doing awful things with immunity, and there's no lawful mechanisms to deal with it.

So... How do we remove this guy from office?

It's interesting when you get a mix of your sort of person and the other "let's go out for drinks" together in the same office. One workplace most of us would go out for drinks and karaoke, or hang out for board games, but there was always one guy who was like "nah thanks". Still friends with one guy from that group. The one that never came around, no idea what he's up to. He's probably happy that way.

Right. For someone in an unstable environment, having a good now is a better choice since it probably won't be there later.

I do wonder what you'd find if you controlled for wealth and stability. I feel like some people have really poor impulse control and delayed gratification despite coming from a stable home life

I'm sure they want the data for money and other nefarious purposes. But as the other person said, I think the way they try to sell people on it reveals they're out of touch. And maybe a little that AI's offerings aren't actually that good.

But a commercial that's like "it can write a birthday note for your daughter!" is a bleak reflection of someone's world. That's not going to resonate with most people. That's the kind of thing a soulless husk with no real bond with their child would think is good.

Part of being conservative (ie: authoritarian) is being extra loyal to the in-group. I think it's like in their brain chemistry and structure. They will almost always yield to the authority figure for their in group.

I can't imagine why you would want any of that. There's nothing in my life or nearby imagined lives that's so arduous I need an AI "agent" to take care of it.

This supports the hypothesis that it's driven by out of touch rich people who are used to having an executive assistant. They can't imagine doing daily tasks because they don't. "Making a dinner reservation? Myself?? How gauche. Get Amanda to do it."

They then think everyone is like them.

It faces the problem where even if people like the policy, they're emotionally invested in being Republicans. Also many of them don't want social programs if it means non-whites benefit. I think those people need to be dragged into the future. Find a way to let them be decent and save their stupid face.

The book "Dying of Whiteness" is fascinating and depressing look into this. Many people would rather personally suffer and die than let the out-group have something nice. They don't want healthcare for all because that means black people get it.

Leadership are mostly idiots. They don't know how work gets done. They think like "wow it produced so many lines of code!" and don't know that's not a useful metric.

My job had Microsoft do a four hour copilot demo for the entire team last week. (Surely an immense expense. They won't pay for most people to be full time with benefits). The guy used copilot to make a regex to parse html. A little surprised zalgo didn't show up.

I forgot how much I hated working in an office. Our desks were directly under the vent, so we'd get blasted with cold air. Sales was off in a corner, where it was too warm for them. No amount of adjusting the thermostat would change their local temperature, but they'd try anyway.

In addition to being climate criminals who should all be stripped of their nice things, people who mandate in-office are often causing personal, physical, suffering.
