In a statement to CTV News on Monday, Public Service Alliance of Canada National President Sharon Desousa called Carney’s comments about attrition “flat out misleading and ignore the hard truth facing Canada’s public services.”

“Thousands of permanent public service workers have already been told their jobs are being cut – not through retirement and voluntarily leaving the public service as the prime minister claims, but through direct layoffs,” Desousa said, adding “The federal government’s austerity agenda is lazy, reckless, short-sighted – and puts the entire country at risk.”

On Saturday, September 20th, we're drawing the line - for People. For Peace. For the Planet.

From rallies to strikes, marches to gatherings, this September 20th, communities will mobilize across the country and demand that Prime Minister Carney and the Canadian government pick a side: injustice, violence, and climate destruction- or a just and safe future for all of us.

We refuse to stand by while the government and Canada's richest corporations hoard wealth, gut our public services, fuel climate collapse, attack migrants, exploit Indigenous lands, and prop up a genocide in Palestine.

They think that if they can overwhelm and divide us, we won't fight back. But climate justice, migrant justice, economic justice, Indigenous rights, and anti-war movements are uniting to prove them wrong.

Smith said permanent residents and non-citizens living in Alberta will have no marker displayed on their card.

Yeah because law enforcement wont abuse that.

Albertans will need to provide proof of citizenship or immigration status when applying for or renewing a driver's licence, according to the province.

Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Dale Nally said the federal government was consulted on the change.

“Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction” sounds kinda maple maga

Driver's licences incorporating Alberta health-care card information will roll out at the same time, Smith said.

"This will also provide additional security around health-care numbers," Smith said.

Smith said there are over 530,000 more health-care numbers than there are people living in Alberta.

Yeah if you are having difficulties with health-care numbers and the population that is an issue, but you wanna bet that the 530 000 number is in relation to people who do not have a license? Here in Saskatchewan we get free stickers to put on our health cards when they are up for renewal, I am willing to bet that you will have to renew your license to keep your health card up to date.

Excerpt:

Lauren Burrows, a senior manager of retail strategy at consulting firm Accenture, said the Tim Hortons and Canadian Tire partnership is “so powerful” because it gives both brands more ways to engage their customers across “high-frequency” spending categories -- coffee, gas, household products and auto goods.

“This is a great example of loyalty programs evolving from transactional to truly strategic,” she said in a LinkedIn post.

However, Liza Amlani, principal and co-founder of the Retail Strategy Group, pointed out “this is less about customer delight and more about two legacy brands scrambling for incremental share in an oversaturated loyalty market.”

Canadians are already juggling too many programs, and unless the value proposition is simple, transparent and genuinely rewarding, this risks becoming just another corporate tie-up that benefits the brands more than the shoppers,” she said in an email.

. . .

While such programs deliver discounts for customers, the benefits are even bigger for businesses. Companies get access to a vast trove of information about shopping habits and consumer demographics every time someone enrols in or uses their program. Retailers then use the data to tailor their merchandise and stores to their customer base’s wants and needs, thus maximizing profits.

This collab feels so weird to me, but I'm having a hard time putting that feeling into words. All I can think of is Buy-N-Large from Wall-E... a little bit of corporate apocalypse and consumerist dread. It feels like they are trying to appeal to the pro-canada/boycott US crowd, but in a way nobody asked for. I don't know, maybe someone more eloquent than I can find the right words.
