Our government is no longer democratic -- its actions are decided by a non-elected, racially defined minority. Many of the MLAs, even, as FN people, ally with First Nations against their own government/interests of their non-FN constituents -- negotiating from both sides of the table is normally considered an obvious conflict of interest, but here, we allow FN to dictate to the majority the terms from both the Governments position, and from the FN position in what looks like an overt ethics violation.

The NDP is basically handing the next election to the conservatives due to the dysfunction the NDP has introduced into the system and their abdication of their role as democratically elected leaders. If you can't govern with the interests of all your constituents as your top priority, not just your own race/people, you don't deserve to govern nor to lead a democratic people.

Hi, NDP voter here. I voted FOR reconciliation not against it. This kind of shit is exactly why I would never vote for conservatives. And Eby is walking on ice.

Reconciliation doesn't by default mean "Democratic government takes a back seat and does what FN demand, abdicating all authority to FN interests". You can vote for reconciliation without wanting to see the province give up its ability to govern. With NDP members also being FN leaders, and voting in the interests of FN -- it's a very clear conflict of interest violation, and a very clear ethical violation. But no one seems to be highlighting that, because FN must always be portrayed in a positive light in Canadian media.

Like you'd need to explain to people exactly how their ability to be represented / have government act based on their votes, is worth giving up to allow FN bands to have the deciding say on everything, before you could pretend like you're representing the larger community's interests. I don't think there'd be any hope of a convincing argument to say, in a democracy, "You're better off without representation/voting for the people making decisions in govt".

And these sorts of issues are going to push the cons into power, most likely -- so you're going to get the cons' approach in the semi near future. And what we've seen lately with the right wing approach to government in general, is basically "Fuck it, this isn't working for us, so we're goin to burn the whole thing down to start over". If the treaties / approach to reconciliation was working, if it had proof that it was benefiting the province / non-FN and FN alike, then it'd be a stronger argument to continue with the NDP approach. That's not the case though -- the province is getting constant downgrades on its credit standing, its budget is out of control, and its got a bunch of messy court cases that basically place all authority into the hands of non-elected groups. We've got infrastructure projects that are years and years behind schedule due to the craziness of BC's gov. It's dysfunctional.

No you wampus, the NDP party platform from 2017 onwards was "adopt both the TRC Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples". That's what British Columbians voted for, repeatedly, over more than one election.

What exactly is the "obvious" here, buddy? And what's the "no democracy for you" bullshit? The BC NDP platform from 2017 onwards explicitly promised to adopt both the TRC Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which then became DRIPA by the Horgan government in 2019. Every step of the way the BC electorate has voted FOR this. Now the Eby government wants to tear it down, to BREAK election promises and BREAK their own party platform and you call this "no democracy"? And in fact not because of some popular demand but because of some shitty mines, so just to line the pockets of some fucking money hoarders while destroying BC. So what the actual fuck are you talking about? That's your "democracy"?
