Somalia is in chaos, not anarchy. There are people in Somalia trying to create order by organizing their communities to protect the most vulnerable people in their society.
If you want to understand how Somalia became chaotic, you have to understand that the great northern empires sank it into chaos to exploit those very same vulnerable people. In particular, the colonial empires of Italy, and the United Kingdom saw Somalia as a fueling point for their coal and later diesel fired ships. The period of decolonization, much like in Uganda, was abrupt leaving a power vacuum creating chaos. A colonial power cannot just abandon a colony for it to be free after stealing all of its wealth and killing all of its elders. Good faith efforts towards reparations must be made
You’re a different person, but I understand what you’re saying, and it doesn’t really change what I said. I separated anarchy and anarchism to delineate the different topics but it seems as though people here don’t ascribe the definition of anarchy to the word, beyond politics. You guys trying to reclaim it or something?
yeah reclaiming the word anarchy has been an ongoing process for a long time. especially now that the words we'd been using (social libertarian and such) have been poisoned it's just easier in anarchist spaces to use the old words

True, but I agree with the other person.
This wasn't clear to me and it doesn't make much sense in my opinion. Of cause anarchists want anarchy. These words are too closely linked to disentangle them. Some people use a different word for anarchy as in chaos but I would say that anarchy is a broad word meaning "no ruler" which does include states (pun intended) of chaos (tho not war lords because they are also rulers) but also people ruling themselves in councils or what ever. This can be very organized and even conservative (in the sense of difficult to change) but also dynamic and fluctuating.
Yes. I use "anarchism" when both words would work but it's "anarchy" we ultimately want. Anarchism is the school of thought or movement.
I apologize if this doesn’t sound constructive, but the folks here seem to have the sense of a word that is untethered from average, conversational English, which might make it difficult to propagate the ideas herein. (I assume that is the goal)
Tumblr had the same problem, and it took a decade for language to shift enough to accommodate the message of users over there. Good luck with the chaos!
