Worked in IT support and moved to software development. I still use the "Have you tried turning it off and on again" line whenever a colleague is having issues with their machine. There are still people surprised that this works. Sadly there is now a generation that has no idea what I'm referencing when sharing the IT crowd gif.
In germany we have formal training (apprenticeship, combines school and company training) for IT fields, most prominently systems integration and app developement.
As someone who was in systems integration I can tell you, app developers don't learn a lot of basic computer knowledge.
