Donald Trump announced Sunday that Republicans plan to dispense a large “Election Integrity Army” to every single state for the 2026 midterms – invoking his debunked claims that the United States does not have fair elections. In a message on his Truth Social platform the president appeared to attribute his “Historic Election in 2024” to the fact that the Republican National Committee sent thousands of volunteers across the country to poll watch or assist with election litigation through a volunteer program. “During my Historic Election in 2024, when I won every single Swing State, and decisively won both the Electoral and Popular votes by wide margins, the Republicans had an Election Integrity Army in every single State to preserve the sanctity of each legal vote. We will be doing the same again in 2026, but it will be much bigger and stronger,” Trump wrote. Trump did not elaborate on who would be part of the “Election Integrity Army” or how large it would be.

So lemme get this straight: the guy who won the last election is claiming that the elections are rigged? I'm just trying to understand here

[–] kurmudgeon@lemmy.world 134 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's how he knows they're rigged. If they weren't he wouldn't have won.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 68 points 1 day ago (9 children)

He just assumes that both sides are rigged, and whoever rigs it best is the winner. That's why he was so pissed in 2020. He knows it was rigged, but so many voted against him that it invalidated whatever he did. He was more successful at rigging the 2024 election.

He's going to rig 2028, too. Don't be surprised if the smoke clears, and he gets more votes than the other candidates, so he has no choice but to honor the will of the people over the Constitution, and remain in office.

[–] DillDough@lemmy.zip 45 points 1 day ago

2016 as well. He even opened multiple investigations into it during his first term and the results were conclusively that the only notable instances of interference were either from or on behalf of the Republican party.

[–] redsand@infosec.pub 1 points 1 day ago

You mean Vance. Donald's keepers don't have any use for him after midterms

[–] grue@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

He shouldn't even be on the ballots in 2028!!!!

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

If wishes were fishes, something something, like little bitches!

I forget how the saying goes. Point is, trump is a bitch.

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I think Mother Nature may vote against him in 2028.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You still think there will be a 2028 election?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We have NEVER cancelled an election in this country, not during WWII, not even during the Civil War. Cancelling an election is a BRIGHT RED LINE, that will not be crossed. If it is, it is INSTANT Civil War.

I will not recognize an unelected MAGA government.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who is gonna lead a civil war? You? I have trouble believing it will happen because so many lines have been crossed already that should have led to revolution and hasn't

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Who is gonna lead a civil war? You?

Are you in third grade? Is that the depths of your intelligence, that when someone makes a suggestion, the best you can do is shoot it down because the person making the suggestion can't implement it? That means that the ONLY people who can make suggestions about our future are those who can actually make their suggestions happen, like Sociopathic Oligarchs. That's what your dumb comment translates as.

No, I'm not going to lead a Civil War, that's not my skill set. But that doesn't mean I can't identify those who do have that skill set.

What do you think all those knowledgeable, experienced military leaders that Hegseth and Trump fired are doing?

Who knows? We haven't heard a peep from ANY of them. After a lifetime of navigating one of the most difficult career tracks in the world, getting to the highest reaches of power, motivated not by money, but by the personal mission of protecting America from ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC, they seem to have disappeared.

The greatest domestic national security threat since the Civil War has taken over the nation, and gotten rid of them, so they can't thwart MAGA's treasonous plans. Surely, those military leaders have accepted their ignominious firings, which were accompanied by public disparagement of themselves and the jobs they invested their entire lives in doing, and are sitting on the veranda, drinking cocktails, and watching the sun set on the nation that they failed to protect, right?

I doubt it. Some were probably willing to chuck it all, and get on with retirement, but these are guys who have lived their entire lives literally waiting and planning for the next fight. These are NOT guys who give up easy. I would bet that at least a few of them are talking to each other, and creating some sort of plan if a Civil War breaks out, and we aren't going to hear a word about it until it happens

If there's a Civil War, military leadership will NOT be a problem, we have no end of great military leadership on our side. I suspect the military leadership on their side isn't as loyal as they assume, and since they've fired all the moral competence, much of what is left is corrupt incompetence. Many of them will be able to be just bought off, MAGA's Achille's Heel.

The problem will be Civil Leadership. In a situation like a spontaneous Civil War, rebel leadership will most likely default to the current leadership, which means the MAGA comedy act of Schmuck & Jeffries will be the headliners, and that would be disastrous.

Weak Civil leadership (and it doesn't get any weaker than Schmuck & Jeffries), will only lead to a Military takeover, and having a Military Dictator wouldn't be any better than a Capitalist Dictator. We need to identify and support leadership candidates that we can count on in a Civil War. So far, about the only only ones showing any real leadership strength are the progressives, and those who instructed the military to ignore illegal orders. Those are the kinds of people who should be in charge.

If I had to pick one that I would trust to lead us in a Civil War, one who understands both the political and military sides of the conflict, I think the best choice might be Mark Kelly. He's got the military experience, is extremely intelligent, not a whiff of corruption in his entire career, and he's tough enough, and brave enough, to go toe-to-toe with MAGA, and not back down.

If Mark Kelly emerged as the defacto leader, with a competent military led by MAGA's cast-off officers, I'd be on board with that Rebellion.

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Every non Republican since 2016 has been hoping that someone is gonna come somehow and save the US from Trump. We're in 2026, Trump is still president and nothing seems to push back against him.

I don't believe in a sudden revolutionary surge in the US. Shit's gonna get worse, slowly, irrevocably, unless the general population develop some sense of solidarity and there's real political involvement from the population at every level. But that's hard in a population as divided as the United States'.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 day ago

Americans have been carefully socialized to be polite, and "wait and see."

But we have also been raised since the beginning on tales of underdog Revolutionaries, winning against the mightiest army in human history, and going on to become the mightiest nation in human history. That is a strong thread running through our national DNA.

We have put up with a lot, counting on our system of government to get us through this mess, and we only have two more elections to get through, and we will know where we stand. There is an excellent chance that the Dems will prevail, and if can convince our elected leaders to do their jobs (I know, I hear ya), we could actually take back this country, and reconfigure it to reflect the original promises of our Founding Fathers, and our Founding Documents. It will be since in a century opportunity, and we can't squander it this time, again.

But if MAGA cancels elections, that's a BRIGHT RED LINE that has never been crossed in our history. It literally means the end of American Democracy. If we won't fight for that, then we deserve to lose it.

But it won't just be the Cancellation of Elections that will motivate people. That would mean that MAGA has finally decided to deploy their final end game, and become a Dictatorship. That will be accompanied by such a brutal crackdown, that nobody will remain polite anymore. All it will take will be one or two serious violent uprisings in which MAGAs are harshly punished, with either little retaliation, or, over the top retaliation, and it will break loose everywhere.

It will take a lot before the dam breaks, but it will break eventually, and when it does, it will be really ugly for MAGA.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You didn't make a suggestion, you made a prediction. I'm saying I don't believe civil war is inevitable if the election is cancelled. So many things have already happened that should have inevitably led to revolution and hasn't. If these guys are planning one, I want to know what they're waiting for

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe -2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

We we are waiting for the results of the next two elections, and the MAGA response to those elections. That will determine next steps.

Civil War following the cancellation of elections, is NOT a prediction or a suggestion. It is literally the automatic result of the cancellation of elections. If that happens, it invalidates our system of government, which is ENTIRELY built on the concept of elected representation. Cancel elections, and you are unilaterally ending American Democracy, and we are in a Civil War, by default.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They should be fighting back NOW, not waiting until its too late

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We are fighting back, making sure we have as free an election as we can have in November.

That hasn't always been the case. In 2016 and 2024, the Dem leadership did absolutely nothing about the obvious election interference that was happening directly in front their faces, as well as ignored the increasing treasonous rhetoric, the Epstein Files, corruption, treason, etc. They prioritized politeness over defending their country.

At least now the elected Dems are starting to match MAGA energy wherever possible. They are stating to ignore Dem leadership, and doing what we want. It is unlikely that Jeffries will survive as Speaker, and Schmuck is already dead in the water. He's only staying on to keep insider trading, and shill for Israel.

Violence is a legitimate option, but it is an inappropriate choice when we still have legitimate Constitutional checkpoints to make it through first. If those checkpoints fail due to MAGA interference, THEN violence becomes the appropriate option.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or you could fight back NOW before fascism fully takes over and it might be too late

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 0 points 1 day ago

I just said that we ARE fighting back, just not with violence. The Dems are doing lots of things, some are succeeding (like keeping the message on corruption, the Epstein Files, and the AmerIsraeli War), some aren't (redistricting), but they are definitely pushing much harder than we've seen in the past.

Look at how many special elections around the country that have flipped from Red to Blue. Every one of those flips was a ferocious FIGHT.

The Dems are winning far more than they are losing, and that's all due to the increased level of resistance. You want VIOLENCE, but that would be seriously counterproductive at this stage.

MAGA believe in violence, because they are too stupid to figure out any other way. We are smarter than they are, by a long ways, and we can outsmart them for now, and hold the Violence Option for when all other options have run out.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, civil war isn't the automatic consequence of ending democracy. Civil war requires people willing and able to fight it. The automatic consequence of ending democracy is dictatorship

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe -1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Well, we know YOU are too cowardly too defend your country. I hope you like the taste of MAGA boots, since your tongue will be on a lot of them.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Where do you get the idea I'm saying not to fight? I'm saying hurry up and get to it before it's too late

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're the one saying that a Civil War won't happen, so you are advocating for not fighting.

I'm saying it is still on the list of options, but there are better options at this stage. I'm ready to go, when the time is right.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I see, you've confused predicting what will happen with saying what should happen. I want Americans to fight back. I'm saying there's no reason to believe it's an inevitability. It should already be happening. The fact that it's not gives me the idea it won't. People keep saying if this next thing happens, it'll lead to civil war and then it happens and there's still no civil war, they just say but if the next thing happens surely that will lead to civil war

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 0 points 1 day ago

And like I've said, it IS happening, we are fighting back, but we aren't choosing violence at this stage, and foreigners don't get it.

There are other ways to fight back in America, and MOST of them are more effective than violence. Winning the Midterm election will have a MUCH larger negative impact on MAGA than unorganized and unmanaged violence. That would just be counterproductive at this stage.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe -1 points 1 day ago

Oh, I get it, another foreigner who doesn't understand anything about our government pushing for violence that would kill thousands, and empower MAGA to go full-on dictatorship, and then kill millions.

Bottom Line: Nobody in America, MAGA or not, cares what you foreigners think. None of you get it.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 day ago

Sure there will. Russia, Myanmar, and Burundi still have elections, why wouldn't the U.S.?

If you look at the statistics... yea it was rigged by trump and he wants to make sure the places he was not able to rig get rigged this time too.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 38 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump did not elaborate on who would be part of the “Election Integrity Army” or how large it would be.

It's a dog whistle to the "militia" people.

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

And a dog shit dog whistle at that. Everybody hates this guy. Who is going to volunteer to harass people at the polls?

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Probably the same folks who are rushing to gerrymander the black vote out of existence in the South.

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

It's a sound bite that works. Get his public angry enough that they stop thinking rationally about how stupid the statement is and his supporters will cheer while voting rights are taken away.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

You are understanding correctly.

Leading up to November 2024 elections, he said on multiple media outlets "We already have all the votes we need. The election has already been decided. It's the last election you'll ever need to vote in. Thats how good we rigged it."

Literally said it MULTIPLE times.

And now he's talking about it again, openly as being rigged.

He's saying the quiet part outloud, and nobody is outraged, because nobody is taking him at face value.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago
