If you must use Spotify, you could at least not link to it.

Just listen to some music and get over it

Any more than YouTube? Google isn't exactly a beacon of virtue

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

Thing is, you don’t need an account for YouTube to work. And if you use an adblocker, it’s actually pretty hassle free too.

Something like a YouTube video/music link can be ripped trivially with yt-dlp. Google doesn't force me to interact with their shitty tracker-ridden UI, spotify does (unless i use some sketchy third party site).

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Take this as nicely as possible, but just google it and just listen to some music instead of being an incel about it

Yeah, that's the saner option. But DRM, online tracking, ads, and unnecessarily bloated websites are still quite concerning. Using these services more only helps them make it worse. Plus, I'm on an ancient computer; spotify runs slow as hell for me.

Sorry for being an incel again, but please try to make it more accessible. You could:

  • Include the song's name, makes it easier to search
  • Link the song in a website that doesn't have heavy DRM
  • Download the mp3 and post it directly

Okay the only thing that will absolve the whole unfuckableness of this conversation is, can you not see what the song is when you click the link to Spotify, and then spend ten seconds to google it? I'm just sharing links of songs I have favorited in Spotify, there's no reason for the fucking purity tests on this.

[–] asdfranger@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes, I can see the name as soon as I follow the link. Yes, I can look for it elsewhere or listen to it on the spot for a while and enjoy it. And I agree, that is the more convenient option for me, instead of complaining about your choice of sharing method.

But still, please consider faster, simpler and more privacy-friendly ways of sharing music in the future, spotify is a bit shit. That is all.

Sensible response, we've gotten through it lol, thank you, yeah, if I see it causes this much fuss I guess I could, but that's just gonna leave the artist in the cold too, cause I probably won't bother sharing it in the first place, I don't really use YouTube for music any more, it kinda sucks for it too if we're being honest

[–] asdfranger@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah xD. It's Lemmy so you'll probably create a fuss every single time.

Copy-pasting the full song title is good enough imo, it's super low-effort and will keep 90% of annoying purists like me away.

Though please use the more effortful methods (better platform/mp3_download) if you feel generous or are in a good enough mood.

How much pushback would I get over posting Napster links you think

[–] asdfranger@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

🤣 I think people would be intrigued more than anything. Worth a try, go for it when you get the opportunity (and remember to message me the link too).
