No, but the resulting insurgency forced America out in retreat? Do you think America won't he Iraq war lmao?

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

1st Iraq was a clear win, both militarily and strategically. 2nd Iraq and Libya were strategic victories because the real purpose was to maintain the petrodollar, which was attained.

Actually the reason your government gave was to get the weapons of mass destruction from Saddam, which was proven to be a lie, so how did you win an illegal war based on fake goals?

You believe US when they state the war reasons and goals? Lol, lmao even. They achieved a real war goal of stopping Iraq and Libya from breaking dollar monopoly on oil sale.

Also it's not my government, my government was actually quite honest, they admitted they went there to bootlick USA and loot Iraq.

Uhh no, I'm saying they didn't win the war because they couldn't meet their stated goals, I wouldn't trust that country as far as I could throw it.

My bad for assuming, btw.

Uhh no, I’m saying they didn’t win the war because they couldn’t meet their stated goals

I mean yeah that usually work like that but USA are in entire another layer of hypocrisy, their stated war goald are only a political theatre for their population, plausible deniality and propaganda purposes.

My bad for assuming, btw.

No problem

Do you think Saddam won? The US won the war with Iraq if not the war with the insurgency.

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think nobody won, but the US especially didn't win.

[–] spacesatan@lazysoci.al -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ok so you can't win a war if it wasn't clean and easy? And since when has the publicly stated justification for a war ever had anything to do with who won? Lots of wars start with false justifications.

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Show me a reputable source that claims the US won the war. The 20 year war, of a superpower, VS a small middle eastern country.

[–] spacesatan@lazysoci.al 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

20 years? The US ousted the ba'athist government in less than a month and installed a sympathetic regime in less than two years. Even a pyrrhic victory is still a victory. The US got what it wanted geopolitically and the government they waged war against was ousted. That's a victory.

It was costly, unjustified, evil, and probably not even worth it from the cold math of empire but it was still a military victory.

Oh ok I guess nobody has ever won a war because war is bad and even the winners take casualties. Very strong arguments you've presented of 'no lol', acting smug, and having your own bespoke definition of winning a war.

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 months ago

Lmao. You sound mad, bud. Despite what natopedia says about the war, it was a resounding loss.
