Please tell me they're not trying to scoop all the algae out of there.
If you shock it, that kills the algae, right?
Then where does it go? There's physical remnants left behind. That doesn't just disappear.
Just like you have to skim a regular pool, I'm sure you want to keep solid waste out of the reflecting pool to keep from overwhelming a filtration system that's simply not built for the load.
