My kids are in their early 20s, I’ve always been on it about raising adults not raising kids so they’re pretty independent. If I knew my child had an actually scary appointment, especially if they didn’t have a significant other, I’d offer to go with them even if it was just to sit in the waiting room while they actually saw the doctor. I think there are times it makes sense, they’re still my kids, I still love and support them and they do consider me a foundational and grounding presence in their lives but I see too many people going so far into the deep end like you’re describing. So many parents aren’t raising adults though, they never teach independence and punish autonomy then their kids end up socially stunted.
