This is why I try to stick with "hobbies" that only use things I already have access to, like pencils & paper, computer & internet, the outdoors, my own body, etc

Before you know it, you're buying fancy pencils & paper from some specific town in Japan that has been making them for 500 years. Your computer is getting too weak for your hobby so you need to upgrade. The outdoors are nice... But they'd be even nicer in those new Mammut boots and Arcteryx shell.

And body? Well, eventually you'll start buying sports medicine because of these stupid bodies being single-use only.

(I'm joking, of course, that is a great approach)

You joke but I do look at the fancy stuff from time to time... So it's not like my approach is immune to the corrupting influences of consumerism 🙈 haha
