Arent those ceramic tiles? Who would put linoleum in a kitchen?

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

In America is very common to put linoleum in the kitchen. It could be tile but it looks like vinyl to me.

[–] TerHu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

to me, the wildest part about this is that, where i live, linoleum and vinyl are entirely different things. linoleum being „all natural“ eg sawdust, linseed oil and a hemp mesh backing, whereas vinyl is „just“ plastic, to the point that you can distinguish high and low income by whether linoleum or vinyl is used.

Yeah because it is something entirely different. Some types of linoleum will get permanently damaged from a puddle of water after just a few hours. So not a great choice for a kitchen.

I didn't know there was a difference

That's when men were real men and linoleum waa made with real American petroleum and cure with strong formaldehyde.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'd say even older, maybe 60s?

It's not like the floor is going to break, should be good until there's several giant wear spots in the main thoroughfare, then just a few years until grandpa is gone and then grandma can replace it.

Not speaking from experience or anything.

It has a good patina now.
