The people who went all-in a few years ago on shaming others for not returning their carts to the cart corral will have a problem with this.
I will make an exception for this.
No I won't.
Nah. As far as I’m concerned that IS a cart corral.
I'd pull out my libertarian hat out and tell people that the market decided this is the most efficient location for the cart corral. Instructing customers to do otherwise is big government and communist.

Seriously though if you aren’t putting your cart in this specific spot or the corral, what is wrong with you? It’s not that much further to walk. Don’t make more work for the person who brings the carts back inside, it’s just inconsiderate. Plus those things have been known to pick up speed in the wind and smash into stuff. You might not give a shit about your own car, but some people do.
Just be considerate, life is better when we work together.
It's the reason anarchy can't work.
People aren't capable of self governance.
I've got sciatica in one of my legs. Not bad enough to justify a handicap spot (although those never have a cart coral near them), but bad enough that some days it is, actually, very painful to walk. Especially the walk back from the coral, where I don't have the cart to lean on.
In fact, I often appreciate when people don't put a cart away, and I can find a stray cart on the way to the store.
I still put the carts away when I'm done, and usually try to park near the cart coral as a result...with one exception: this fucking Dollar Tree near me, where their carts are all absolute shit to begin with and there's one cart coral and no parking spots anywhere near it. I park against an embankment under some trees where there is always space and shade.
Usually there's already a cart there waiting for me. When I'm done, I leave it pushed up against the embankment, back wheels on pavement, front wheels on grass, so it can't roll back into the lot, and right in between the parking spots so it is easy to retrieve by the next customer.
as an avid despiser of assholes who don't return their carts and leave them right in the fucking way, I grant you a pass because of how you're doing it and what you do to avoid the situation in the first place
also the dollar tree sounds like it simply has a bad design and they should fix that
Its a slippery slope, once they get you putting them in a corral then they will expect you to take it back to the building. At least Aldi tricks people into returning the cart or you pay.
Its job security to the cart grabbers. Make their job easy and once they collect the carts they get hours cut. Make it difficult and they can keep working all day.
"It's a slippery slope to stop pissing in the parking lot. Once they get you pissing in the toilet, then they will expect you to just hold it in."
It's not a slippery slope; you're just pretending it is because you're a lazy, selfish, obnoxious chud, and pretending it's because you care about the people who clean up your mess is insulting to them and the people reading this. I hope you also throw your trash on the floor because that helps them hire more janitors, you little slob.
I've gotten into the habit at my grocery store of taking a cart from the corral into the store rather than walking in and then taking one from inside the building. It's functionally no effort for me and its one less time a store employee has to walk that cart back into the building. The people who work at that grocery store are my neighbors and townsfolk, every cart I bring back in on my way is an opportunity for them to stand around on the company dime.
Not quite. Stores typically do flex scheduling instead of a steady 9-5, and will only allocate enough employees to meet basic demand, and are cycled between stations.
There's never enough hands for someone to be just a cart grabber. Once you're done with that task, it's back inside because that weird robot thingy saw a sticker and is calling for a cleanup.
Dumbest take. They put the corrals out there because they expect lazy people.
Whatever helps you sleep at night
This is another cart corral.
nope not at all
Cart Narcs know they'd be out of their jurisdiction there.
It's just a new cart corral, no big deal
That is a cart corral, looks fine to me.
Nah. This is the least that the bastards deserve.
When it's so a corporation saves money: "The wind! The wind will blow the cart into cars! Wiiiiiiiiiiiind!"
I don't know if/how you've never seen wind catch a shopping cart, but it can hurtle those fucking things. Mercifully the hurtling tends to be worst with the plastic ones because there's more surface area, but I've seen one of those smack a car head-on at like 25 kph on flat terrain on a breezy day.
You can go look up videos of even pretty modest winds gently pushing metal shopping carts around; they look like they're possessed.
Even on flat lots on windless days, you're not sticking it to the man; you're just being a jackass making someone's already insufferable retail job even less sufferable over 10 seconds of returning a cart.
"The store just puts those trash cans there to save money on cleanup and liability." Yeah, no shit.
Here's the thing. I am aware that wind exists. I've seen wind. I've even seen it push shopping carts like you describe.
This isn't a problem in every parking lot, particularly underground ones. And it's still just as much of a problem with these pictured carts.
So people aren't really upset about the wind.
