I hope this takes off and people start using "tweet" and "twitter" again and it makes "x" completely irrelevant like his Hitler salute should have

Edit: it cost $20 to join?! I'm out

Well, they need something to pay the lawyers with once Musk takes notice.

Edit: I've just discovered this interesting concept called "reading the article" and found out that they've already been sued, though it's still not entirely settled.

Spread the word my brother! You've got to let everyone know about this new fad!

[–] artyom@piefed.social 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I read it but honestly, probably 80% of the time I do not. Because articles are very often full of pop ups and ads and tracking and paywalls, and are unnecessarily verbose (most can be summarized in 1-2 sentences), and are just republishing someone else's work while adding nothing, and simultaneously devoid of useful information or any actual sources.

[–] KyuubiNoKitsune@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Some of that can be solved with Firefox and unblock.

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 30 points 1 day ago (2 children)

100% can be solved by knowingly making a glaringly obviously false claim about the topic and someone will correct you in a dickish tone while citing the article

[–] huey_m@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Your grandad's AI summary, if you will.

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've seen AI summaries that looked like the AI had not read the article.

[–] huey_m@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

In fairness, that could be said of some of the know-it-all summaries as well. 😅

[–] Salvo@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

Works for me 😏

What dark magic is this

This is liberal propaganda FAKE NEWS

Jokes aside: I think it's great that you read the article, then went back to both acknowledge that it covered your point and admit that you didn't before.

Wait. Is that allowed?

This here is an excellent guide:

[–] zeezee@slrpnk.net 80 points 1 day ago (5 children)

https://twitter.now/

vibe coded slop asking for $20 bucks to sign up.. i think I'm okay

[–] orgrinrt@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Oh fuck this is embarrassing

[–] printerhell@lemmy.today 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That site was blocked by spectrum when I tried it

[–] bountygiver@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

Probably a pre-emptive block to stop scam sites from using domain that are similar.

[–] Squirrelanna@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't think I've ever seen that many em dashes ever. Not even in the most copy/paste AI slop wall of text. Holy moly.

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Wow you were not kidding. Some of them are extra awkward and unnatural too, it's almost a parody of what slop text looks like.

We believe people should have more control over what they see — and more transparency about the information in front of them.

An early illustration of the idea — you decide how much low-trust noise reaches your feed:

it cost $20 to join?! I'm out

Yep, I can't spend the money now, which is probably true for a lot of people, and I'm definitely gonna forget this is a thing by the time it's free or I have the money, which is probably true for a lot of people.

They probably need the money to pay for their AI-based "fact-checking":

A new and notable feature is the automated fact-checking tool, a Gemini-based “veracity engine for real-time analysis” (“Vera” for short), which runs on every tweet.

Using a technology that's known for making shit up, for fact-checking, is so dumb, but it will probably bring in investors because AI.

[–] norkoris@lemmy.today 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Do they expect everything posted to be just news and information that can be fact-checked? Is this AI going to fact-check my opinions and shitposts too?

The homepage feels like AI slop too.

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 7 points 1 day ago

"I just watched movie. It sucked!"

"Beep boop. According to trustworthy, verifiable sources, movie does not suck. Sanction : immediate ban."

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

AI is very good at classification

[–] Kissaki@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago

Every tweet

Poop emoji - this has been fact checked but can not be independently verified due to lack of context

[–] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago

Edit: it cost $20 to join?! I'm out

...As a "founder"; we'll see how long that lasts

but til then at least, I'm out too

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 12 points 1 day ago

it cost $20 to join?

Shit, that's twice as much as it used to cost to join Something Awful, and I bet you don't even get access to furry porno.

[–] Varesti@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

I'd still be hesitant if they paid me 20$ to join.

[–] RobotToaster@mander.xyz 6 points 1 day ago

Sounds like a grift.

people start using “tweet” and “twitter” again

I never stopped

[–] n7gifmdn@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

No one else did either

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I called it X-twitter. I didn't really use "tweet" though; mostly because I tend to talk about toots more than tweets.

[–] Bipauler@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I tend to talk about my toots after I eat a can of spicy chili beans right out the can

[–] frostedtrailblazer@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Are we sure it’s not mostly still bots on Twitter? I deleted my account back then and have not been back.

At least, not willingly back, since some people still hyperlink to Twitter directly rather than just sharing screenshots of whatever the content was. So you click the text hyperlink thinking it’s to a web article, only for it to bring you to some random string of tweets visibly displayed in the least logical order.

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Oh I'm positive it's mainly bots and morons on x

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (3 children)

what what term do people use for tweets on shitter now? just "posts"?
