"Early Access is open. $20 to join, $40+ to fight." From twitter.now

xD. The original twitter was free!

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 3 points 8 minutes ago

Yeah i'il keep using mastodon and bluesky, also, they already have investors so it's dead at birth for me

[–] Pamasich@kbin.earth 13 points 2 hours ago

Imo reviving Twitter as paid ai slop is just making a mockery of it.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 41 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah. "Lets try centralized algorithmic corporate social media again."

Im sure this attempt will end up just as wholesome.

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 11 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Also, with a website that's clearly designed by AI.

What could go wrong

[–] forkDestroyer@infosec.pub 4 points 3 hours ago

Gonna be digg 2.0 (or 3.0?) all over again.

I'm not claiming Twitter is great.

But this is obviously going to fail, always was obviously going to fail. It's a PR stunt, nothing more.

Twitter will sue them, they'll settle for giving up the name and some token fine, and hopefully they're on the map. Or, their hail mary long shot will pay off and they'll get to call themselves twitter in which case holy shit they're golden. That's the strategy.

It's stupid- they'll lose in court and I doubt whatever they offer is more compelling than what's already out there.

i can't even resolve the app.twitter.now subdomain, off to a great start

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 hours ago

They're probably trying to give Phoenix vibes with the new logo, but I'm not Pheelin' it.

[–] Mr_Dr_Oink@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago

Not sure if we really need more social media.

[–] SLVRDRGN@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago

A comment from a reader of that article said: "Running some real 'Gandalf the White/Twitter as it was meant to be' energy."

And I can agree.

  • Cash grab on an old name and hoping people pony up the $20 to join it.
  • Not using ActivityPub or ATProto.

Yeah, it's already DOA.

If anyone is serious about creating a new centralised social network these days, they have already lost.

It may well be intended as a serious attempt but personally I'm just going to view it as trolling/a gimmick, in which case I don't care how shit the actual platform is. Seems to be more about making a point against Musk than getting a serious userbase.

Shame. A new Twitter that supports all the open protocols would have been cool. Fediverse with a name people recognise.

Mastodon is not called Twitter, and the vast majority of people have no idea what it is, unfortunately. A Mastodon instance called Twitter would be a great idea, although I think Mastodon doesn't support all the protocols like Friendica does. But Friendica is too unlike Twitter.

I suppose that could potentially drag Mastodon's developer into a legal fight (if X were to sue them), which would be costly and a distraction.

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 1 points 10 minutes ago

Not mastodon devs but the instance owners

Is Trump-Hitler2028 still available? I will settle for hotBillionaireGulag.

Ohhh Noos! The branding I choose which no one wanted or ever adopted is tarnished by my own actions from the last two years… Let’s rebrand and hopefully the user base will no longer associate my actions with this service anymore!

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

Read the article next time. Another company claims X abandoned the name and is launching a competetor using "Twitter" "Tweets" and Twitter.now url.

[–] apftwb@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

Twitter, formally X, formally Twitter

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago
