90% of people I've met don't negotiate pay..... But, if this were the answer we wouldn't be underpaid in the first place.

Prob should start then. I've done this every time my responsibilities get to a point I can do another job for more pay. Or less responsibilities for more pay. Making your boss aware that you're valuable is the start.

It's not automatic very few people will actively just give you a pay raise. That's just how people work.

If I'm wrong I'm currently 20% better off than last month wrong. Doing nothing and bitching and moaning is entitled behaviour.

Our union negotiates our pay scales, which i am eternally grateful for. I have a lot of trouble with conflict, and job hunting is actual torture.

This is ideal, sadly a lot of unions have been dismantled. I would say it shouldn't be a conflict it should be a negotiation based on current market rates. It shouldn't be a you vs boss. Just a hey don't know if you're aware but I can do less for more down the road. I agree with the other posters too the job market is crazy atm hence my if possible to jump ship part. I wasn't looking forward to it but I also was not prepared to put up with being paid for the job they were asking me to do as well. Sadly you have to use the capitalists tools to not get taken advantage of. They would happily have me on my old wage till I retire,

I wouldn't know that 90% don't negotiate without negotiating myself and encouraging others to do the same.

You're talking down to the choir
