Just don't eat meat, it's better for everyone that way.
This is the ethically and factually correct approach.
Doesn't fix this issue though. The lettuce and tofu are contaminated now.
Cook the lettuce, and you should have already been cooking the tofu.
I know you're joking, but the bacteria itself often isn't what gets you sick. It's the waste products of the bacteria that gets you sick. Those don't cook out.
In the case of the lettuce parasites, cooking does render them safe.
I wasn't joking, kilt lettuce with potato cubes fried in the bacon fat and crumbles of crispy bacon is amazing.
You can also stirfry it with some garlic, and ginger, salt, and sugar, just make sure you get the oil super hot before you add the lettuce, cook for like 30 seconds, then throw in cornstarch slurry and remove from heat. Maybe fry it with some blanched carrots, bell pepper, w/e.
Theres also soup.
Yeah, I'm not cooking lettuce. I'll just grow my own lettuce for salad and collard greens for cooking.
You don't know what you're missing, cooked lettuce has been a thing in appalachia for ages, and literally the only way lettuce is prepared in China.
Yes, but i honestly can't stop myself
Have you heard of the idea of vegan plus bacon? Something like someone said i would go vegan but i just love bacon. And the response was, ok, go vegan plus bacon.
Basically don't think of it as all or nothing. Being as vegan as you possibly can is better than not trying. Imperfect veganism still makes a difference.
I am working out a diet that is primarily vegan but get to keep chicken for now. Until i figure out something else to replace it. Also sometimes pork, but only sometimes.
If everyone did it there would be far less need for factory farming, harmful inhumane killing of animals and damage to the environment as we would all be eating sustainable and environmentally friendlier foods. Just with some bacon.
This mentality has me and my family eating dramatically less meat than we otherwise would and I hope to continue that slide, I think it's a great strategy most folks who want to try can use to get started.
As an ethical vegan, I both love and hate this.
Just avoid buying it.
Simply avoiding meat is a lot easier than going completely vegan. You have a very good motivator to do so right now too.
Have you tried petting a cow? I eat way less beef after a random cow on the side of the road rolled over so I could rub its belly.
If only..
