I think you're unrealistically humanizing a bunch of code.
Why would it? What would this even look like? You just said yourself it's just googling stuff. There's nothing deeper going on behind the curtain.
They unironically drew a parallel between modern 'AI' and Skynet. I think 'unrealistically humanizing' is a very kind description.
