"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

And as a side effect it’s destroying the next generation’s access to skill by undermining the education system.

[–] Nobody@anarchist.nexus 52 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

The Matrix called the 90s the peak of human civilization, and it felt extreme and foolish at the time. Turned out to be prescient.

The education system started getting gutted in the 80s, and it accelerated rapidly under W in the 00s. MAGA is a direct line from this and the similar policies around it.

Not this "american going to shit = decline of civilisation" talk again...

Life continues getting better in China every year.

Just something to think about.

In any given country there are always groups that are, to varying degrees, persecuted, ostracised or who don't benefit from the general increase in the quality of life. That does not mean the country isn't doing well.

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

You are of course correct on that. I was merely pushing back on what was looking and sounding like a tankie agenda. But life is steadily getting better in China (based on data that I trust which isn't that easy to find when it comes to China), which I'm very glad for.

Many of the same people and organizations that told you that are also Israel supporters. Ask yourself why that is.

The actual statistics for Xinjiang province show the same quality of life improvements as the rest of China. The Uyghur population is living longer, attaining higher education, earning higher incomes, and their region is seeing constant development.

Time will tell. A year from now, I bet things are even better. Will your life be better next year? Mine probably won't.

mate, i hear you opinion. But your comment and your past comments come in too strong.

As if you are paid to push an agenda.
Sometimes it does feel you are a bot account enabling a specific narrative.

Good luck on future conversations on the internet. Hope you get more considerate

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

I do this for free because I'm a stupid loser and I haven't had friends for almost ten years and I probably never will again and have nothing better to do with my time and it will never get better and anyone who says otherwise is a fucking liar. 🙂

[–] Sequence5666@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

Sorry to hear it mate.

Friendships are built on giving.
Am sure you have that in you.

I met my bestie while doing a lake cleanup organized by an NGO. Perhaps you can do as well. Here’s to hoping

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

They aren't coming on too strong just because you don't like what they said. You might be a bit sensitive to the topic.

[–] Sequence5666@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Sorry mate. Didnt want to ruffle feathers.

But do read his previous comments.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Somehow I'm the one that's coming on too strong and is inconsiderate, but it's okay for them to accuse me of being either being a paid liar or not being human at all.

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

When did they say that? I must be missing a reply.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

They said "As if you are paid to push an agenda" so I'm a paid liar, and then "Sometimes it does feel you are a bot account enabling a specific narrative" so maybe I'm not even human.

Talking to reddit.world users is always a mistake and I shouldn't do it anymore.

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 hours ago

Did I even reply to your comment? Pretty sure my reply is to the other poster.

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 61 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

This is absolutely true

What is also true is that the Republican speaker of the House in Indiana explained their long term goal was to gut education because it wasn’t profitable.

This was in the 1980s

Mission Accomplished

[–] discocactus@lemmy.world 28 points 19 hours ago

I mean it's a complete misunderstanding of the economic basis for profits but hey.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 10 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

One of the reasons why there are no next generations for me.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 13 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I refuse to help populate the water wars of 2063

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 8 points 15 hours ago

2063? My, aren't we optimistic. 😒

[–] IAmYouButYouDontKnowYet@reddthat.com 3 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Bro. It's meant to take over natural humanity nevermind generations... We are gvinging away humanity for the force that already raped our humanity.
