Created as an evolution of White People Twitter and other tweet-capture subreddits.

Don't know when this was originally posted since it lacks a timestamp, but yes there were like 2-3 weeks in a row recently where there were no tomatoes in the store (other than cherry tomatoes)
Can't speak for Instacart, but DD had a problem where the store could have a perfectly acceptable substitute in stock. But, the store didn't have the replacement UPC/SKU registered with DD. Because DD didn't know what you were adding, the shopper app would simply not allow the shopper to make the substitution.
So if the store switched produce suppliers, they could have 40 bushels of tomatoes available at the store, but the shopper wouldn't be able to put any of them in the cart.
I used to have to wander around trying to find products the same price as the replacement, then explain to the customer why I was adding a scannable $3.17 9 volt battery as a substitute for unscannable $3.17 worth of brussel sprouts.
Cherry tomatoes are tomatoes.
You sound like my dad in his insistence at all potatoes are baking potatoes. I'll just go make my jacket new potato then, sure it's only four centimetres across, nonetheless I'm sure it will make a lovely meal.
For most tomato uses an equivalent volume of cherry tomatoes works fine. In some cases they're superior because they're already divided into bite sized portions.
Tiny potatoes bake up a treat (in groups of course ) if you oil and salt the outsides first and time them correctly.
Tiny potatoes roast very well. They bake for shit.
Isn't roast a synonym for bake?
Roasting implies cooking them in some kind of fat. Roast potatoes are doused in fat after having been parboiled and their outsides roughened specifically to cook better in that fat. A baked potato is just heated dry. (And if you just ate them like that they'd be shit, but you typically add some butter or cheese)
Try rubbing your big ol' russet potato with a little oil and seasoned salt before baking it next time. Little potatoes like this treatment too, no parboiling needed. When finished, add your butter/sour cream/chives/cheese/bacon as you usually prefer. Because they're still baked potatoes, just with crackly delicious skin and slightly less dry center.
I mean, "rubbing with a little oil and seasoning" to me is, if not making a roast potato, starting on that continuum.
But I don't bother with baked potatoes of any kind - roast is my preferred method.

If a recipe calls for sun-dried tomatoes and you put in cherry tomatoes it will not work. You can't just swap between two different types of product.
You can "sun-dry" (in real sun or a dryer) cherry tomatoes (and oil them if that's the kind of sundried ones you need)
While your statement is objectively correct, surely you would have a preference when it comes to tomatoes on sandwiches, or when making a caprese/other recipes that use sliced tomatoes.
I love them on sandwiches, you can place the halves to fit the shape of the bread. And you're going to cut those caprese slices to fit in your mouth anyway. Use smaller basil leaves and cheese pieces with cherry-tomato halves, it would be very pretty. Or just make "Roman Salad," with whole ones, bocconcini, pesto and extra chopped basil. Delicious!
(I have cherry tomatoes growing vigorously in a pot on my balcony, just from poking a ripe one into the dirt and watering.)

True, you have to know what you're doing in order to improve rather than ruin.

Diet cream usually won't work in cooking because it will curdle when real cream won't.
